New CV's/driveshafts-availability

Hi again everyone,
I need to get new driveshafts and was wondering if anyone knows where to get them.
I had some suspension work done today and on inspection,found the Lhs outer CV is stuffed.
Tech. reckons that was making the rumble noise on acceleration as mentioned in a previous post.
A driveshaft business I spoke to says the CV's are unavailable but they will rebuild mine.
I can't see that working as they can't re-harden the worn contact areas in the housing,just fit new balls (wouldn't we all love that).
I'd like to renew all the CV's and would prefer exchange driveshafts ready to fit coz that's how I roll-
don't think,just spend.
Any advice ?

You can call Tooley Imports in Hornsby - they are pretty easy to deal with and have heaps of new MK1 stuff available.

I have in the past bought a large amount in for a few users from the US but you need to pick these parts carefully as the heavy items will catch you out on freight.

they do all custom drive shafts and im sure they will be able to help you with the CV issue aswell.

could get some SH driveshafts off someone (wrecker maybe) and then get new CV's and whack em on.

You can buy them brand new, I wouldn't bother getting them re-conditioned.

maybe if you have a few bits and pieces to buy, it'd be worth getting an order from GAP. Last time I checked the dollar was pretty strong against the green back.

GAP are great. I've probably spent about $10,000 with them over the last 5 years or so. I've never lost a parcel or had the wrong parts delivered.

Just e-mail them with any concerns or questions regarding postage, they're really happy to help.

If you're ordering heavy stuff like driveshafts, be prepared for fairly hefty air mail charges. Also consider topping up the order with all the little bits and pieces like gaskets and shift linkage kits, door handle gaskets etc.

I don't understand why you need to replace the driveshafts - please explain.
You only mention that the CV joints are worn - I would expect CV joints to be readily available.

Have you spoken with a VW specialist? Boris at VolksCare in Bayswater has been helpful.

It's pretty safe. Just make sure the site is secure - the URL should start with https instead of the usual http. But it's dangerous in the sense that you might start ordering all kinds of stuff from the comfort of your computer.

If it was me, I'd souce some second hand driveshafts/CVs, theres plenty around, and rebuilt them. Its a dirty job, but unless they have run without grease for a fair while, will be OK. I did it a couple of times to my swallowtail shafts when the boots have split and they have 450k on them.
