Good stuff. Get to it ;) :D
Thanks man, hope to see you soon. The car is Oak Green, which was a limited edition colour for the Mk2 16v. Therein lies a clue to the engine of my beast, to the well informed ;)Quote:

back from the dead like jason
good to see
So its been a busy weekend.
Put all new gaskets on the gearbox and oil contol seals.
And swopped the hubs to let me use the 20 driveshafts that I have here.
Gave it a bit of paint and a new bush kit too.

My new clutch kit arrived last week, so I bolted that to the engine and sorted out the pulleys and belts and whacked the alternator on. I cut the alternator bracket in half as it is so heavy.
http://img6.picsplace.to/img6/24/thu...engineonly.jpg
Then I bolted the engine and box together and stuffed them in the car.

I usually drop motors in from the top, but the whole engine bay has been resprayed and is very shiny, so I put this one in from below! I`d leave the alternator off next time!
Close of play today is the two side engine mounts done up and the car has an engine for the first time in 2 years!
Next is wiring.
Looks like we both had busy weekends matt...
Who's will be faster...LOL!
nice loony good to see some progress!!
Good work, Loon ;) :) For God's sake, lose that blue, though :D :o Oak Green is a classic and subtle VW colour and is spoiled by common old Ford blue!!!
looking sweet
Thanks Valver. Its only under the bonnet and I need a colour to compliment the Oak. Silver and black gets lost, it needs something else. hence the blue.Quote:

The outside of the car will look stock, the interior will be special ;)
I`ve had to lift my game after seeing your car mate. Something to aspire to.
:) I see what you mean, but don't you want to pretend the brake linkage is lost? :D j: I know I did!! Too much money to go to individual MCs properly and probably no gain...?Quote:

Did the brake booster today.
Painted it black, in response to criticism from some of you lot ;)
9" Booster from an Audi 80 1986 Model modified shaft, thanks dubstarmk2, Audi 80 M/C and bottle.
Used a couple of nuts to kick it sideways to clear the dissy and bent the shifter linkage to clear the bottom of it. Brake lines are in and there is enough clearance. :)

there no stopping this lad now
and its about time lol
Yeah i`m into it. Everyday I go and plug in another couple of things.
Its clearing up the shed too, as i`m sorting things out and sticking them on the car. :)
Today I did the wiper motor. A SEAT Ibiza motor fits onto the Mk1 bracket and the electrical connector is the same as on the Mk2 loom I am using :)
Should mean that the wipers will actually work, unlike most Mk1s!
Also put in the engine loom and the front car loom. The plan is to put the entire loom in from a Mk2, including the fusebox. Should then be plug and play all the way, except the back tail lights.
Still got to do Fuel lines. And car wiring.
Going well Loon. Keep going and never give up mate. Can't wait to see it all done. Take a week off and you could take it on the drive next sunday!!! (not!)j:
Yeah I reckon if you locked me in the shed for a week, I could drive it out of there. :)
It wont be that soon, but not that long either.
any progress is better than none mate good work keep it going :)

Test fitted the radiator today. No pics, as its a secret. I will need a different alternator bracket, thats all I`m saying.
Started into the wiring.
Today I fitted Diesel Fuel Lines. Surprisingly easy as they were ready bent to fit a Golf. Easier than bending virgin fuel line into shape.
Fitted the Driveshafts
Buggered around with the gear linkages and shifter and put the car on the floor for the first time with the engine in it.
Happy Day indeed. It feels more solid and looks like a car again.
Sitting at a good hight, I hope it settles lower though ;)
Still have wiring, and interior to go, but Its definately getting closer.

looking awesome mate!!! Really coming along now, you must be stoked... keep up the good work :)
looking good!
must be nice to back on ground with
motor in it . looking very nice indeed!!!
The motor looks a lot better sitting in the car than on the engine stand mate!
What's the deal with the Diesel Fuel Lines?
Are they larger than the petrol versions?
diesel lines are 5/16" where petrol are 1/4"
nice work loon, i cant wait till you've got it going
Moved the car from the back of the garage to the front today.
Pushed it out into the sun and gave it a quick wash, turned it round and put her back in.
Now I can reach the wiring and fuel lines, next time it comes out it`ll be driving :)

Did some more hard yards today. i wanted the fusebox on the drivers side to fit neatly with the Mk2 dash and wiring loom.
Space for the acellerator was an issue, but a special ninja bracket was the go.
http://img4.picsplace.to/img4/26/thu...eenfusebox.JPG
Had to clear all the stuff out that I was storing in the shell. Which was good, as I found the front windscreen rubber, so nearly ready for glass.
I have been deliberating over whether or not to put the arches and gti stripes on it that I have had stored for so long and been tripping over for ages.
Just thought bugger it in the end and whacked em on. Glad I did, I think it makes it look tuff. What do you guys reckon?

http://img4.picsplace.to/img4/26/thu...en_stripes.jpg
Still have to do the other side. I need a bigger garage.
Next wiring and hopefully sparks.
Then dash and interior.
yeh they do look tuff mate, cant wait to see this running :)
