    2 door project

Been a while since my last post in here, been collecting some things and getting back into the mk1 swing after I sold my four door. Thought I'd start a thread up as I'll have a heap of questions to ask over the next few months. Have got most of the bits I want now, so the slow process of putting it all together is starting. It won't be a fast project, as my unis getting pretty full on this year, but will give me something to niggle away at on weekends.
starting with two stripped two doors, one of which I'm using and the other is heading to metal heaven as its has a pretty hefty side impact and been dodgily repaired

Plan was to respray the good shell, but after looking at most of the panels and the way the paint is coming up from under the layer of dirt it will be kept just as it is, with everything cleaned up and rustproofed. Still have some welding to do on the floorpans and a spot under the gutters but other than that the shell is pristine and super dry. will just have to spray a drivers door and a bonnet.

still not exactly sure on what direction i'll be heading with it but will update as progress occurs.
    some snaps

    Base.

    plus some goodies

    equals happy danny

Looks like an awesome project. Can't wait to see some progress, parts wise it looks like you're already well set up! What is the exact colour of the car? White? Cream? Can't tell whether it might be faded or not.

cheers dude should be a good learning curve if I can get it all together.
still have a few parts i need to get onto.
Waterboy yeah the box is an 02j from a 99 beetle, still trying to find out some info on it but have the attatching shifter from the donor bug

The colour is actually a creamy white, will have to check the dulux plate for the code, when i first saw the car it was only considered for spares, but underneath a grimy sheeny layer is an amazing film of paint!

that's sweeeeeet. i'd love a project like this..

i reckon i'd go for a mk2 diesel 020 gearbox. the 02j is a fair bit heavier and you can keep the rod shift set-up from the mk1. otherwise you have to go fabricating mounts etc for the cable shift setup.

are they gsxr throttle bodies? they look the graus whatever they are. cupra/abf clocks too?

they're all the goodies (bbs.. om nom nom nom) i'd want for a mk1 project. keep it updated!!
