    Ok someones knowledge needed

    Ok gents,

Went to see if the old girl would start today.

    No go

Basically as the starter motor had engaged i couldn't bump start. So been sat for a week. Basically kit the starter with a hammer and it disengaged.

Turned key and the starter started to turn but nothing would happen. Slight pop out of engine but nothing. Eventually the starter started to die as battery dieing too.

So anyone have a guess at why she wont turn over properly!!!!!!!!

Just about to get a 2nd hand starter fitted but wondering even if i do will it still not start up, what other things should i look at????

Appreciate any help as i want to get her too my new house to start prepping the body!!!

Probably just needs a battery with a enough charge in it to turn the starter fast enough to fire up.

Or you can check for fuel at the carby and also for spark at the plugs. Unless you've changed anything like cam or ignition timing then it should be as you left it!

Battery was fine previously and i just had to wait a while before she would start. Just popping sound was coming out of her before i had to move and leave it. So what would be causing the popping in the exhaust! autostart a solution i guess!

start with basics if you end up scratching your head. engine only needs 3 things to run, fuel and spark to run. if it's getting fuel air and spark, double check the timing.

Bit of aero start/start ya bast*ard might help. I'd chuck some fuel down the carb first. I always found that to be the main issue with a car that's been sat.

some of the things we did to get mine started...

    - fuel in the carbys
    - check fuel pump is sucking
    - battery
    - coil and dizzy(spark) - (which ended up being the issue)

as jarred said, air fuel and spark, process of elimination.

Im experiencing the exact problem, say that the fuel pump is fine and theres fuel going to the carb.

How exactly would you go abouts the dizzy or coil? Got no spark at all ..

Pull an ignition lead and hold it just near the nipple of the plug you pulled it off, then get someone to crank the car over and watch for a little spark.

Might want to wear rubber gloves etc.

maybe your coil (more likely i'd think) or dizzy is screwed, double check all the wiring and earths are correct and use a multimeter to see if you have power where there should be...

The coil should have power (and a good earth) when you turn on the ignition. Test the spark by taking out the high tension lead and put your finger in the end of the coil. Get someone to turn the ignition on and crank it over for a few seconds. You should get an almighty zap through your finger but don't worry, it won't kill you. You're not wearing a pacemaker are you? If you are then get your mate to stick his finger in the coil and you turn over the engine. Or if he's not a really good mate do it this way first.

If you still don't get a spark then the coil is stuffed or the dizzy isn't sending a signal to the coil.
