Well, I suppose I could be called a Mk1 Golf fan. Over the years I have owned 6 of them but only 3 are still in my possession.
My first was a very low mileage green '79 diesel. It took me a while to adjust to it after many beetles & a type 3 fully imported
1500s. I bought my wife a petrol 3 door auto, that she loved. This was followed by a 3 door petrol manual for my son that I fully rebuilt the motor including a rebore. I then moved back to a '82 diesel manual that I still own today. It had been hit in the back & considered an
uneconomical write off. It originated from somewhere in Europe & converted to RHD probably in the UK. It is a C model [entry level]
where the bean counters sharpened their pencils & took everything they could off of it. It does have though a five speed trans,a rear wiper, inertia belts & tinted glass.
The last 2 that I have is an '81 diesel from the last shipment into SA & a complete parts car, a '79 Diesel from Alice Springs.
From memory there were around 11,500 Mk1 Golfs sold in Aust. , The last shipments were Diesels.
I don't normally buy Wheels mag. but in the latest there is a feature on all the desirable Golf models over all the years to date.
Production of all Golfs is now 37 million vehicles.

Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.
