    4-speed -> 5 speed mount conversions

    Hey all,

In the last couple of weeks I've finally got around to a little project that's been in the back of my mind for a while now - an easy 4-speed to 5 speed gearbox mount conversion.

Since everyone wants a 5 speed, but 4 speed mounts are so plentyful, I figured this might help out some of us.

Here are some pics of a standard mount and a newly converted 4 speed mount:

    and here is the R&D

Basically the mount is converted by cutting the usable chassis mount off just after the bend, and then replacing the offcut with the lasercut 3mm (same as the stock 5-speed mount) steel plate which I designed above. The lasercut net is folded at 90 degrees between the indents, and then inserted into the old 4 speed chassis mount. After this its a simple job to MIG weld it together.

I'm not out to make money out of MK1 owners, so I will happily email anyone the dwg or dxf if they want it. Alternately, I can make you one for an as yet unknown price (I don't know what the lasercutting costs yet, but its not much. Maybe $25 - that would make the unit price about $60.

Unit price for "you send me your old one, I give you a new one" is $70 inc postage.
If you dont have a 4 speed mount to give me (because its on your car) then you can send me one after I send you a new one.

The cost is basically break even for me, so dont ask me to make you 20 of them so you can sell them to someone else

Feel free to pm me if you want one, want the file for the lasercut part or whatever.

    Peace

Jarred - do you want the lasercut part or the whole mount?

I can send you a lasercut net now, I have about 4 in stock.

    Cheers

ummmm do you mean will the complete mount work? Yes.

Do you mean will the insert fit into a diesel 4 speed mount when you cut it? Yes.

    hrrrmmm yes 4 speed mounts.

I think an exchange system would be best.

At the moment, I dont have enough 4 speed mounts for everyone.... so you are going to have to send them to me if you want them converted by me.

maybe the melbourne guys can send up a few together to save on freight?
