Thoughts on Pedders Suspension to install coilovers?

Thinking of going to Pedders Hornsby to install my coilovers. Thoughts? ExotiCars Pareamatta cancelled my appointment for this morning (last night) as they have too much work and cannot book me in till the 26th! It's like torture looking at the Weitec box at my door and the only places that can do it by Monday are Pedders.

Spoke to the reception this morning and they have a GTI golf doing an install now and said they've done lots of them.

    Thoughts or experiences with Pedders?

I can't say much about the Pedders in Sydney area, but the quality of the work will greatly depend on the mechanic doing the job, the same applies when you take your car to VW dealership.

Now, I know I didn't help you much, but if they are responsible and have done it before, with all the right information in the hand, skilled mechanic can handle the job well. After all many members who aren't qualified done the suspension work themselves (which I don't agree with) so, why wouldn't you trust a trained mechanic from Pedders?

But Camden GTI would be my first choice if you're not too far from them.

Haha what you mean you don't agree with members doing their own work! :p

Now obviously your in Sydney so getting one of the great guys down in Melbourne to do it is out of the question.

Things to remember about Pedders. They are expensive - I was quoted 360~ to fit front and rear springs (excluding the cost of the springs which they wanted 600 for).

This included a wheel alignment but they said they do NOT replace the stretch bolts that VW recomends are replaced when they are undone. (A further 60$)

So even "proper" places are dogey to some extent. I personally put my springs in myself (rears only) which are easy as. Don't need to undo anything just lift the car up and compress the springs out. The new ones you can drop in by hand.

It could save you a few $.

I would recommend Con from Pedders at Granville. They got recommended to me by the guys from the Audi forums and they've done Bilstein PSS10 and KWV3 installs for me. Work is always top notch and really easy to talk to.

    Pedders in Hornsby is expensive.
DIY then take it to Jax Quickfit at thornleigh to get a wheel alignment.
    or
Just take it to Jax Quickfit

The boys at Jax Quickfit thornleigh all have there own cars which they race and work on all the time, they know whats doing and you can also talk to them about how you want it aligned.
Dealt with them a few times after doing DIY fits on my car. Im from Mt Colah so pretty close to the area

I dont know if it was just me but when Pedders installed my springs and sway bar they managed to damage some sensors to the electronics such as the traction control and hill start. To their credit though they did pay for everything to be repaired at the local vw dealer.

Pedders quoted me $420 for the install which isn't bad. It's cheaper than ExotiCars but I'm worried as when I spoke to Dave (who is well regarded on other forums) said he wasn't a fan of the KW's and Weitecs, I didn't understand the car lingo he was speaking but in general he said the coilovers people install into the VW's have issues with "knocking" and after a few months customers come back with complaints or issues.

Makes me wonder if he's inexperienced with European cars as it seems Pedders is more for jap car drivers or Falcadore drivers.

Asking around it seems coilover install is pretty simple for experienced mechanics, especially experienced suspension specialists like Pedders.

Anyone tell me more about knocking coilovers? Is it related to poor install?

I never did a coil over install - only springs and have had no problems.

I know someone on here who installed coilovers (KW V1's) and he made note of the rattling and how annoying it was in the fronts. Not sure if he changed back or not or if he has had problems since...

Could just be the coil over itself or a poor installation.

Well I took it to Pedders Hornsby today, $420, picking it up tonight. Asked for an even drop front and back and for it not to go too low, I don't want scrubbing or rubbing and I want to be able to seat 5 people in the car.
