    Polo restoration project - 2016 66TSI

It seems like I just can stop taking on new projects. What is worse that at times I have multiple ones going at the same time Occasionally I will even complete a project, although is a build ever done??

So ... my daughter's partner is sick of his 2009 Lancer and wanted in to the VW world (he has seen all the VW magic that happens at my house I suppose). Problem was that he has the value of the Lancer when sold to pay for an entry ....

So, Pickles to the rescue ... get a cheap repairable write-off and put it back on the road. Enter this little 2016 Polo 66TSI manual in black .... promptly named (as all of our cars) Black Mamba

Auction picks shows light front damage with no airbag deployment.

In the shed starting the strip process. Damage is really restricted to bolt on bits, so easy enough (I hope)

More to follow - incidentally all replacement parts have been ordered now (~$1500 in parts)

So this project has been bubbling along slowly and is now coming to a close

The initial strip unfortunately did show that the left front rail was pushed out of alignment.

So I took it to a mate with a panel shop who straightened it for me and did the paint on the new body parts. Did some assembly at his shop before bringing it back.

Almost ready for a RWC, just needed some new brake discs and pads ....

And having to do this anyway, figured a better looking setup would be great. (even painted the calipers)

Cost a bit more than originally planned, but still less than half of a similar car on the open market.

Tip I learnt doing this: when you strip make sure you keep all the little bits and pieces that you may not have thought were important .... turns out some replacement parts does not come with the small stuff like clips and brackets. Had to buy a few bits to replace some that went in the bin during stripping

Oh, and the little Polo got renamed to Venom ....

This project has now come to a close (for now anyway).

The little Polo got roadworthied, repairable write-off inspected and registered. Officially back on the road!

Next up, I believe will be an intake, blow-off valve, cat-back exhaust and a tune, although that won't be my problem

Update, Liam (my daughter's partner) is now the proud owner of Venom and I have 1 less car at the house. Sold his lancer for exactly what the Polo cost me (him).

Is it bad that I have already started looking for the next project
