You might need to go test drive one and have a look through the owners manual or look for the labels on the engine timing case to see what engine they use.

The advice given on first page is sound If you just using it as a town and around car a diesel is not for you.

Only way to run one is get it hot and keep it hot. Running it short distances will not do that and so you may have DPF problems which can be very expensive

Not really enough to get it hot as it should be I had a diesel VW and only ever used it if I was going for a trip of an hour or so

More than enough for the DPF to regenerate. We have 2 Tiguans TDI that do no more than 18 km city trip one way and in 10years never had an issue with the DPF.

The DPF regens must vary wildly from one model to another because my SQ5 takes a good 15 mins just to get oil and water up to temp and then it only starts a regen when its at 100% full (not a 98 or 99%, only 100%) and then takes a good 20-25mins to do a full regen.

Too be honest its an absolute pain in the arse and the car never does a regen when you want it to (eg we went to Sydney a few weeks ago, perfect conditions for a regen and the DPF was 82% full when we left. The DPF finally reached 100% when we were about 5 mins from home in stop/start traffic....bloody useless. So i had to drive around needlessly until the regen finished instead of going home).

    I’ll never buy another diesel.

I get the consensus it’s a problem in most of the larger engines. It’s hard to find issues for anything 1.6 and lower, am I wrong ?

Which could indicate you that vast majority don’t have any problems, and it indicates me that the hysteria about the DPF from the early days more than a decade ago is still alive. FYI, in most cases, the early days DPF failures were caused by faulty DPF pressure sensors and the drivers who ignored the check engine light for too long. Despite it was relatively quickly resolved, the stories are still used by car salesmen.
