    EPC problem in 4th gear

If I am parked with motor running and Clutch depressed

Select 1st Gear - Engine idles at 650rpm
Select 2nd Gear - Engine idles at 650rpm
Select 3rd Gear - Engine idles at 650rpm
Select 4th Gear - EPC light comes on, engine runs roughly as fuel (or sparks or both) turns ON and OFF*

Stop/Start system will be in Engine Not Running error. This typically doesn't go away for ten minutes

You really don't want to have low throttle in 4th gear whilst driving because this gets really ugly

So I generally just use First, Second, Third and Fifth Gears

I am guessing it may only be OFF for say 100 ms

It could also be noted that I often get the Stop/Start error "Engine not running" in normal driving even if I don't select 4th gear

My Local Mechanic found the problem the last time I got my car serviced. Apparently when the manual gear selector was in 4th gear, there was a metal rod rubbing against a wiring harness. With time, this had completely worn through the insulation of a purple wire and was earthing out the wire

Wiring has been taped up, and wiring harness has been cable tied out of the way so that it doesn’t contact the manual gear selector problem solved
