    Diff oil

MY 06gti still has its original gearbox only 5700km but last weekend at the lights it did not go into first and i had to clutch in 2 times to select 1st .Was cold that day i have had 2 services at the dealer and had no repair work done .I am happy with the performance and handling .Is there a diff oil other than the one vga has put in mine that will shift better when cold and protect better and not void the warranty. Do ya think a thinner grade will help the shift and still protect gears .Is the original oil synthetic?Any one tried different gear oils with good results?

Mine stopped going into 3rd. VW denied there was a problem so the linkage snapped when it wouldn't go in one day. Off the car went on a tow truck with no more gears.

Funnily enough VW noticed there was a problem now.

The Polo gearbox has had a few dramas, and is a running issue in this forum at the moment...
There have been alot of threads on this, and there is also a recall out on the gearbox too.

These may help, but in regards to the recall, take your car into the dealer, quote him the VIN, and he should be able to tell u whether the car need the recall work done or not.

Sometimes mine just won't go into first when at the lights. Normally just have to put it in 2nd and then back into first. There was a thread on it a while ago. Blitzen may have linked.

Don't all manual gearboxes do that every now and then? Just put it into second or third and it usually fixes itself

I have had it a couple of times, but having said that, I have had it happen on my previous cars that I have owned, and some other cars I have driven. This has only been on first gear though, and a couple of times going into reverse.

i brought my back to vw balo and they did the recall.
The invoice listed as atf fluid change... auto trans fluid
Hope its not just bandage fix.
5 months of crunching 2nd here and there, now much smoother going through all gears and virtually no crunch into second.
The linkage adjustment also play a big part of smooth shift
