Please Help: Diagnosis Required (Video Supplied)

    Hi there.

Please see video of car running here: YouTube.

    Context:

    • I was driving along at ~30kmph in 2nd/3rd gear when I heard a very loud BANG from the engine bay
    • The car revved out and I could not get any power to the ground - changed gears and much of the same, eventually the car wouldn't move and I needed to push it to the side of the road and call a tow truck
    • A few minutes on Google led me to the following scenarios:
      • Clutch is busted
      • CV joints are busted
      • Gearbox is busted

    • I recently had the CV joints replaced (only days ago) - whereas the clutch and gearbox have been solid for years (clutch shows no sign of slipping)
    • Just to re-iterate: I was driving in a very pedestrian manner and certainly not "launching" or trashing the car by any means

If you can spot anything obvious from the video, I would be grateful for any pointers.

    Video link: YouTube.

    Regards
    James.

I'd be surprised if they weren't single-use-only bolts, which don't take well to being torqued a second time - that's exactly what they do!

oh man that really sucks go after the mechanic who last worked on it hard.
had this happen to a mate with a mk3 golf vr6 and the little washer plates actually put a hole in the gearbox housing. hope that hasnt happened to you mind you in his case only one of the bolts came out and that resulted in the washer plate flinging around like a knife.
