Hi there,
I've just recently got my Ps and looking to buy a 2nd hand car, came across a VW Polo 2005 that i'm interested in. Being new to cars, and not knowing alot. I was hoping if someone could enlighten me regarding the running cost of one of these cars. I've been told that parts and services are expensive but no figure was given, so maybe you guys could help me out. Is it worthwhile for a New P-plater to get a polo.
thanks! much appreciated!
work out ur budget first? then test drive all the cars u like within that budget. then take it from there.
my opinion: polo without turbo or disel-turbo may not be the best buy.
Forget about the girls comments mate, obviously some people think the requirement for being a man is driving a turbo as opposed to having a penis.
Anyway, back to your question, I can't give you an exact answer, most people here seem to own 06 and later GTI models. However, I can comment that servicing is only required every 15000km or every year. VW are a bit of a rip, but you can do more maintenance yourself or take it to a specialised euro mechanic who charge less than standard VW and, from what I have heard, seem to give better service.
I don't think there is going to be a big difference buying a VW as opposed to buying a Honda or Toyota. If you drive a lot of k's per year, minimum services of 15000km are also a big help.
Not sure what other cars your considering, but you won't go wrong with the Polo - reliable, well built, efficient and a lot more character than your whitegoods Yaris!

Hi Caleb welcome to VWwA
Polos are tough little cars no matter which one you buy.
My tip would be to get a VW Specialist in your area to look over the car before purchasing as NRMA or RACV etc are use to Japs and Commies etc.
Also call a VW Dealer or Specialist and find out common problems with the car model you plan on buying and work out costs that way.
Obviously your buying a Euro engineered car and as we are far away from Europe, parts will have a premium over the Asian/Australian cars.
Hope all these tips are helping you on your purchase.
Good Luck![]()

How many km has the car done? I've already done 65,000km in MY06 Polo GTI and my service cost me $500.
I don't know much bout the early models. But they are a tough little car and well built.
