Polo GTI turbo to intercooler pipe? *URGENT*

hi all,

The pipe that runs between the turbo and intercooler has ruptured in my GTI, and VW Australia does not have this part in stock!! It will take 3 weeks to ship one from Germany, but I will have to sell the car within 3 weeks due to relocation!

I just can't believe VW Australia doesn't stock such an inexpensive yet commonly replaced item, that is just poor practice, but again, why would VW care? By the time someone needs to source a replacement part, VW Australia has already sold the vehicle anyway. I just can't imagine a Japanese car brand having such a poor inventory control/practice.

Just wondering if anyone has one lying around and if not, where can I source one? Any advice will be much appreciated.

BTW, who wants to buy a 2008 Polo GTI in excellent condition in Canberra with 62,000km on the clock, APR Stage 1, PD160, K&N panel and APR R1 diverter valve? The pipe will be fixed prior to the sale or price will be adjusted accordingly.

Need a better idea of which pipe mate. I have a good selection off my GTI.

From memory, off the turbo there's a 90 deg rubber, into a longish hard pipe. Then a rubber elbow from there into the plastic bit that runs past the sump. Into a rubber one again onto the intercooler.

A picture would help.

I am off work tomorrow so if I have it, I can send it overnight.

You are such a life saver! It is the main pipe that carries compressed air from the turbo to the side-mounted intercooler. I will go out now to take a photo of it. Will post here in the next 10 minutes or so.

Is it the one that fits on the black hard pipe on the right of the picture. It's held by a clip. If that the one, I don't have a Polo one.

I have a way around that though. The hard pipe off the MK4 GTI has a plain end and will fit the Polo. I am sure I can find a pipe to join the plastic pipe running past the sump.

hi Gavin, yep, I think you are referring to the right pipe, I have circled the ruptured pipe in red in your pic, and indicated the approximate rupture line using yellow (the actual rupture is on the opposite side of my drawing on the pipe, visible from above the engine).

Even if it an improvised fix wuth MK4 GTI part, provided it will fit and hold in place, I will be extremely grateful!!

I am just wondering if people would remove this pipe if they put on an after-market intercooler, or they connect the piping for the after-market intercooler to this pipe?

Ok, now we are talking. The MK4 pipe is the solution for you if replacement is the fix. Really interested to see how it got broken.

I am sure you could have it welded though, any engineering firm would be capable. It's a stainless pipe.

This pipe isn't removed during an intercooler fit so there won't be any spares, except from a crashed car. I can fully understand why VW don't keep one. I bet it's the first one that they could have sold in Australia.

I think my ruptured bit is rubber instead of stainless steel? As shown from my photo, where the pipe ruptured, you can see webbing material inside the pipe, so it must be rubber?
