Road Trip Of Epicness...

With a girlfriend over from the USA, and a couple of weeks off from work, I thought I would take her out and show her some of NSW, the ACT, and Vic, and taking the long way... Should be alot of fun!!

I won't be on those roads for this trip, but I know they are alot of fun, especially the run from Wodonga to Bairnsdale via the Tawonga gap and Mt Hotham!!

Now in Canberra for the night before heading to Melbourne tomorrow morning. I have to say that the drive between Hartley and Goulburn is awesome, especially the 8km either side of Jenolan Caves... The run is pretty bumpy in a few places, but overall it's a really fun drive, with some amazing run with awesome views, and the cooler temps made for the car running very well.
Can't wait for the drive though the Snowy Mountains tomorrow!!

Well I have to say that today's driving was awesome!! I'm now in Melbourne's CBD after 10hrs of driving today.

The drive from Canberra to Topping up the tank at Jindabyne was pretty uneventful, but still fun in itself. After topping up, and a brief photo stop at the edge of Lake Jindabyne, we continued though to head toward Threadbo. After paying $16 to enter the national park (what a friggen rip off to pass though a Govenment funded national park... You don't see the same thing at the foot of the Blue Mountains... Just another way the government is ripping off it's citizens), you continue on past the Threadbo turn off to 80km of pure driving awesomeness... The road isn't the best maintained road around, but the fun is there to be had... My run was let down in that it was raining intermittently, keeping the road quite damp, and the was a fair bit of diesel on the road from and over filled tank which kept the road pretty greasy, and kept you on your toes.

I did have some issues with brake fade in some spots, but the cooler temperatures of the mountains meant that the brakes cooled down pretty quickly. The road does have an awesome mix of corners, and is pretty evenly matched for up and down hill sections, which means you can have fun with it if you enter from either side of the National Park.

After the run though the mountains, and into Victoria the run is pretty uneventful, but there are some nice places to stop and have a look. After filling my tank in Jindabyne I didn't have to fill up again till Wallan, just north of Melbourne, but I could have easily made it into the city.... So after a good mix of spirited driving in the mountains, then highway driving from Wodonga to Melbourne, I was averaging 9.0l/100Km, and was getting about 580 to 600km to the tank... I was pretty happy about this.
