Seems other than checking everything works the gearbox will be the most obvious significant issue that should be relatively obvious.

Goes without saying that I will do all the normal checks and get a local specialist to do a report for me. On that note are there any suggestions for someone close to Hampton 3188 for vehicle check and servicing - Dub Addiction or Euroworks are reasonably close?
    Dub Addiction i not a workshop/mechanic

There is Audvolks in Clayton or Volkspower in Burwood

like with any car, a good service history with regular oil changes is important. As many have said, the engine is strong though is best to run with good liquids. I do an oil change every 7500km as I track the car, though also do only 10-12,000km a year so it's not exactly costly or regular.
Track Car: 06 Polo GTI Red Devil mkII
    Daily: 2010 VW Jetta Highline
Gone but not forgotten: 08 Polo GTI
** All information I provide is probably incorrect until validated by someone else **

You could consider Volkwerke in Greensborough as well.

I would offer you my GTI as I'm selling it soon, however if you're concerned about the power output for a P-plater mine probably wouldn't be all that suitable in it's current state

Stock is enough power for my 18 year old even if he spent most of his learning in a 240rwkw V8 manual. Fairly tight restrictions on P platers - basically no mods allowed (I generously interpret that as he can drive stock tune and I can drive performance tune ) and in any event probably well outside my budget (I would like to spend only $15K but the low klm ones are more like $18K ).

Have had a chat with James at Audvolk and he is convenient to me. That said it may be that a vehicle I am interested is located far from home and one of the other suggested workshops will be easier.

Sounds like you want a tune that switches, like the APR? there are others out there.

being a euro car with very basic local support, be aware that replacing basics can be expensive and VW Aus seem to often be out of stock of most things i've ever needed that are specific to the 9N3 Polo (bushes, bearings).

If you are not modding it beyond the tune, there is not a whole lot that is likely to go wrong.

    Good luck.
