Joey Mod on Polo 9n3 Headlights **Progress PICS!!!**

    Hey guys

Has anyone done the Joey Mod (Blackening the inner part of the headlights like the polo Gti) successfully?

Contemplating doing this but need some advice on taking the lens off...

It would surely beat buying the headlights from the stealership. (PGTi headlights cost about $600...)

In all seriousness, I would just buy the Polo GTI headlights, or look online to see what I can find.

I had to replace one of the headlight for my 06 polo gti, and the workshop (in Melbourne) got a quote from VW $220 each, that was about 4 months ago. so both should cost you only $440.

You can get them from vaglink.com for 300 USD. And they still have the free delivery offer until the end of the year.

go on ebay.com or .com.au and type in "polo gti scheinwerfer". scheinwerfer is german for headlights, will bring up more results. seems you will pay under 300 to your door.

Alternatively, check out this site for some awesome lights for similar money. these are meant to be good quality as well, everything on that site is.

Just a little update on that Joey mod i was contemplating. After soughting out most of the issues regarding the armed robbery i finally had some time to start on the Joey Mod.

Firstly, it was really difficult to get the lense off. Took me 3 hours to get it off with a heat gun.

Here's a pic of the headlights apart. First pic is the lense with the chrome backing.

Second pic is of the headlight backing.

Third pic is of the chrome backing that unscrews from the lense with 3 screws.

Forth pic is of the chrome backing that i sanded down and sprayed. Sorry for the poor quality pic. Camera didnt focus.

Fifth pic. A comparison of the normal headlight with the one I sprayed.

Still have to put the lense back on and seal it up. Also have to do the drivers side headlight as well.

Let me know what you guys think.

    It looks awesome mate.
Really well done and will completely change the look of the car.

Make sure you completely seal the lense cover on though otherwise you might get water in there and short it out or fog the lense over.

Finished the headlights. Just have to fit them now. Will do that after work.

Came out great IMHO + I saved myself $300 USD
