Bleeding Brakes

The mechanic who has machined my rotors tells me he cant bleed the brakes as he would need to open the ABS solenoid using computer control.

Can anyone help me as to if this can be done (or should be done) by non VAG specialist?

I bled my brakes with no dramas. Just used the pump and Bleed method. From my understanding, the ABS solenoid stays open when the ignition is not turned on, hence it is just like a non ABS equiped car in this condition. The only time you are going to have dramas is if you bleed the resivoir dry in the process. Up to you though.

There is no need to go to the dealers for a brake fluid flush. They are the same as any other car in regards to bleeding.
Not sure why your mechanic stated this...

Agreed , although the Pog does get bled slightly differently, yeah and it was against my grain as i would always go furthest away from the master and work towards it but done an upgrade lately and had dramas getting a good pedal, bled front left, then front right followed by rear left then right, i know all you techs out there me included would normally do it like i mentioned before but this in fact made the pedal like rock. This is the Vw method for that model
Thats the only difference i feel your mechanic was scared to touch or couldnt be bothered.

This was at a tyre / wheel shop, I had my rotors machined there and asked them to do this at the same time.

I wasn't really surprised by his lack of knowledge, but worked in my favor when they tried to bill me over $200 (some other minor work to pads and calipers).

I'll take it to my normal mechanic for this.

Only needed if ABS modulator is changed, as mentioned above normal bleed procedures fine, Dealers use a pressure bleeder to force the fluid through rather than pumping the pedal.
