Apparently ESP can be disabled by disabling the source of information the system relies on (this will result in dash light errors though)

    - Adaptation channel 09
    - 44 Steering Assist

Steering Angle Sensor set to 1.

Set Brake Assist to 2 and set Hill Assist to 'early', other XDS stuff not available on my car.

Brakes let go a little earlier now on hills which should hopefully help with DSG jerkiness in those situations. Car starts to roll back a cm but it's easy to catch on the accelerator just like a normal manual.

VCDS description was also interesting in how the car "adjusts torque levels" for hill start assist, which could have something to do with jerky uphill starts on tuned cars with more torque.

Notice any difference with the Brake Assist change? What did you have it set to previously?

Comes on a little bit earlier, still very easy to use. Was on 0 - Normal before. Will keep both settings changed at least for now.

[+] Ended up reverting brake assist to normal setting, as the quick application caused jerky behaviour in slow start/stop driving (i.e. takeaway food drive-thru).
