What kind of a supercharger does a TSI engine have?

What I mean is that the TSI supercharger isn't like a "done up" muscle car with a supercharger that wines. I just don't understand what it does in this engine. Is there an extra belt?

As you can probably tell, I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to car engines. Any information regarding this would be great!

There is a belt connected to the coolant pump for the supercharger, it's a separate small belt. There is a changeover flap that regulates when the supercharger hands power over to the turbo 1500-2500rpm range I believe. The supercharger is there for low end power while the turbo spools, then the turbo takes over, this is to give the vehicle a more 'constant power flow'. It's not really made for performance so to speak, more so fuel economy, 'less turbo lag' etc.

If you modulate your throttle pedal appropriately you can hear the supercharger whine. The supercharger operates from 1500 rpm to 3500 rpm. It's best heard in manual mode starting from gear 1 and max acceleration. Above 3500 rpm the clutch in the coolant pump is disengaged and you only hear the turbo afterwards.

Supercharger turns off at 3K Rpm... It's only a slight dip in power when it does but it is noticeable on a dyno (power curve flattened out and the raised a lot)

It's very much a fuel economy and Turbo Anti Lag measure. Because our 1.4's have a K03, it will spool a bit latter than a 2.0L engine can spool it, they chuck a super on ours to negate that
