Looking to Buy Nearly New Golf GTI

Guys,

I am on the verge of splashing cash on a 5dr Golf GTI DSG. I am in WA. I am looking at 2010 model from a private seller with only 9,000 kms on the odometer, no real optional extras except MDI interface. The advertised price is $42k but redbook gives me a guide price of $36,700 as the top end price with 15,000 kms considered low.

Can people help me with what is realistic I don't want to end up paying way over the odds

From previous threads regarding people wanting to sell their GTI's and asking about pricing, the general consensus was that the redbook prices were quite a bit too low.

I paid $43,500 for a 2010 in 2010 brand new with MDI and Leather, so considering leather is a $2,500 option, you could probably get that car for $41,000 brand new from a dealer today.

Given that you should be well south of $40K second hand...

just bought a 3dr man white gti new for $40k with mdi, bluetooth, weathershields, cargo mats, tint
i thought that was a decent price.
i think the redbook prices are realistic, the sellers are the ones that aint realistic. thats what i found when looking at used gti's.why would i pay more for a used one when i can get a new for less.

realistic and reasonable priced GTIs will sell fast!

the Tornado Red ones are even faster, cos of the colour :p

it's a common marketing tip, always put the advertised price higher than what you want to sell. no matter what prices you advertise, prospective buyers always ask for discounts.

so, for the OP, go and have a look at the car, if you like it make an offer, if the seller is not realistic, move on

be prepared before you come and don't let emotions distort your decision.

remember, with the highly sought after GTIs and Rs, VAG don't make enough for Aust! so, you should not expect dirt cheap prices on used ones.

Exactly... A new car is listed for $44k drive away, you and you want 10% off and get it for $40k. A 2nd hand car is listed for $36k and you get the same off and drive away for $32,400 etc

If you price a car "realistically", everyone still wants a discount which means the seller ends up getting screwed.

Ended up paying 39.5, gut is telling me I paid way too much, but I was probably a bit too impatient and I just couldn't get any of the wa dealers below 46500 for the exact same car brand new

I should probably forget about it now and enjoy the car

Hey forget about the price now you have got the car and it will bring you joy and for the difference you believe it might be is not worth it. You got the car sub $40.. sounds like an honest price.. just hope you ended up with an honest car.

If it makes you feel any better I negotiated a good price on my incoming R and can't get any dealer out there to match it when trying to find one earlier than my current delivery date but I still think it cost too much.

At least you know the car holds value and someone else has worn the devaluation, also you get out of on road costs - Winner

Hey forget about the price now you have got the car and it will bring you joy and for the difference you believe it might be is not worth it.

Good advice. Life is short, don't sweat the small stuff.

Got my car for a couple of days and have only clocked small Ks on it. It rocks! Worth every pretty penny ($ if you like).
