More likely that the lack of downshifting is associated with the adaption process :) Normally it doesn't downshift down hill unless you touch the brakes (which obv kills cruise controll)

Have to say that mine is also downshifting on hills ( to 3rd ) and also shifting at higher revs ( not hitting 7th gear until i have hit 75-80kph ) since they did the update..... But yeah could simply be that I hadn't driven hilly areas as much as I have since the update.
I don't think gavs is right on this one - mine is still downshifting to hold speed going down hills on cruise control two weeks and over 800km after the reflash. Like the new feature!.
How steep is the decline? What speed limit is the road?
I am inclined to agree. My car has never downshifted going down hill since the day I bought it. I have poked prodded & rooted around with my DSG7 resetting adaption counts and other things with VCDS quite frequently.
Then last month VW re-flashed both my ENG & DSG software with latest firmware after fitting a new motor for good measure. Now it most definitely downshifts going down hill with the CRZ control set and does a reasonable job of holding the set speed. Never did any of that before.
Although, as my DSG7 had not been touched by VW since 2009, it is possible there was a update in between that I missed, which added the downshift feature.
My car used to shudder on 2nd quite violently. Had it serviced with a VW specialist (not dealer) and the shudder got reduced to like 20% of what it was. I can still feel it sometimes but only slightly, and not as often. I'm still puzzled at why the shudder would disappear like that when it was a minor service and not at a dealership.
I've got an MY11 118TSI DSG7 and got a DSG software update last April 2012 that changed my shift points.
This was it, 37G7: http://vorsicht.org.hk/forums/showthread.php?t=12728
Had the same thing after 37g7 update. Had been meaning to get back to dealer to have it checked but in meantime over about 6 weeks had improved about 80% also. Still getting occasional 2nd gear standstill starts but much reduced shudder. Figured it must be the fuzzy logic that done the job. Hoping it stays the way, or better still, improves even further.
Mine is the same, never downshifted and is more than happy to greatly exceed the set cruise speed when going down hill. It always annoyed me as I'd end up way over the speed limit.
I have a 118TSI which is in for its 30K service today and is getting the software upgrade for the DSG. I noted it said 7spd DSG recall on the paperwork. I haven't picked the car up yet so can't report on the results.
We have a Polo GTI and it does downshift going down hill when cruise is on. It's been interesting to compare the two cars. Obviously the GTI has a lot more power but the gear changes are very different.
I wouldn't call 12kw a lot more power (although weight difference will have a bigger impact). :P Get Stage 1 for the Golf and they'll be more evenly matched.
My car never downshifts unless the brakes are touched, but it generally will only go <5kph over set cruise speed, if I see a descent coming up I'll just tap the 'Dec' button a few times to compensate.
