Best time to order 3 Door GTI for Late October/November Delivery?

    Hey guys,

I am currently on my P's in Victoria and the law states that P plates cannot drive the GTI. Fair enough, not going to argue there.

However, I want to have my GTI here when I get off my P's which is in the 2nd last week of October this year.

When would be the best time to go to a VW Dealer and put my deposit down? I have heard some stories on here of people having to wait 6 months plus for their GTI to be delivered. Which doesnt bother me, I just dont want to order too early and have it arrive at the dealer 2 months too early.

My aim to sell my car privately, so I will need to do this while im waiting for my GTI to arrive. That also means I cant have the GTI arrive say 2 months before im off my P's, which would force me to sell my current car early, and I would be without wheels for 2 months.

What I was looking at was a Red 3 Door DSG GTI, with a fair few options added on in Victoria.

    What are peoples thoughts?

I was thinking of putting my order in July? but this maybe too late according to some reports i have heard?

Can I put my deposit down, and request the dealer order the car at the most appropriate time to guarantee a late october/early november delivery date?

I think that you should probably start talking to a dealer now. Current wait times are around 6 months. Sure October is 8 months away - but say that it takes you a few weeks to negotiate and do all that, if the car does take 6 months, then maybe it does arrive a month before you're off your P's.

However, if you are up front with the dealer, I'm sure that they would be happy to hold the car in storage for you until you were legally allowed to drive it away. I have a friend who had VW hold a car for him for ~2 months whilst he sold his current car privately. Now, this was due to the dealer having the storage area available and really wanting the sale etc, so maybe not all dealers could do this, but it doesn't hurt to ask

The only thing is. I need to comfirm that I can get finance for the car. (say 25K?) do I need to do that before I put the deposit down on the car?

Ive had a 10K car loan previously and paid it off early for my current car.

So what is the best way of going about this?

    YES MOST DEFINITELY!

You should ALWAYS have your finance approved (at least a 'preapproved amount you can borrow' before going and putting down a deposit).

coreying do you think placing the order for the car in June would be too late/cutting it fine for a November delivery?

I dont wanna jump the gun too early when it comes to ordering the car. Thats all.

From what we've seeing now Pauly, there is little chance that you'd be able to get your car in November from a June order. But then again, things may change by that point....

That is a real pain. I was hoping to get some more savings behind me by June, before I go to the bank and ask for a car loan.

At this stage my bank account is not in the most healthy state after paying for a car service, insurance and rego (male under the age of 25).

When you get a car loan, do they ask for a print out of how much your bank account is sitting on at the moment? or is it just pay slips?

They do a full credit check. So they'll probably want to see pay slips, bank accounts, any credit cards you have etc. They may want you to reduce your credit card limits too etc.
