So how do you refer to the year of manufacture if year of manufacture is the same as model year?
After all, MY11s will be manufactured in 2010/11.
In which case build year is not MY, eg MY11 will be built in second half of 2010 and first half of 2011. So you can have an MY11 built in 2010.
In Western Australia a "Form 4" "Vehicle Particulars And Warranty" requires ONLY THE FOLLOWING:
Year of Compliance
Year of First Registration
No reference is made to its build month or year, which is why we operate off Compliance. The only exception to this is where the model year differs wildly from the year of compliance.
Clearly there are very different practices in different states.
Very much so! But this wasn't related to the build year anyway - Dubya was just quoting me out of context of what I was replying to. Anyone that has looked at Volara's post can see Volara was obviously meaning the Model Year (MY) rather than the build year, because obviously it's not 2011 yet.
Calm down. Not sure what you mean by "out of context" as I quoted your entire post!
I would have thought Build date and Year build are synonymous whereas Build year and MY are not.
I know you like to say that everyone knows you are right, which is lovely and reassuring, but try not to be so defensive.
Dubya, you quoted my post, but not what I was replying to. Volara asked about his "2011 build". Hence my post in explaining what a Model Year is. I did not mention build date.
You and I are both saying the same thing Dubya. The difference is you're on one of your numerous attempts at trying to pick holes in my posts. Please desist as it's annoying to me and confusing to others who simply want their questions answered.
Well Dubya I think you need to go back and read the posts again, as well as the posts at the top of that page. Nowhere did I say "build year". Volara asked what the difference between his 2011 build and a 2010 build would be, and in the context of that post I wrote "year builds" are referred to as "Model Year" to correct Volara's wording. Maybe it would have been more to your liking if I had said "xxxx builds" or something, but as this thread is specifically called "Whats new in the MY11 models?" and he hadn't said "build year" or "build date", I didn't feel it was necessary to go into this unrelated conversation, especially as it had already been mentioned at the start of page 2 when it was relevant.
Anyway - this has been dragged out long enough and is well and truly off topic now. So I'll probably clean up this last page in a few days...
That's for warranty though... and I think it applies to all States.
When you go to value a secondhand car ... what do you use? First registration date, compliance date (which can vary marketedly from built date) or built date. When you have a sale on new cars are '09 built cars discounted more heavily then '10 built cars?
In the eastern states the best sales for new cars are at the beginning of the year on previous year built date cars.
