Yeah, defo at 25000 on the nose every time.
I just filled up with a tank of 95 last night. Only put in 49l though so still got about 10% 98 still in there.
The noise is still there, and if anything more prominent, can even hear it inside with windows up and radio on this morning on the way to work.
Gonna be in the service centre later this week and will try to recreate it for one of the mechanics.
The rattle in my GTI is getting louder. Not sure whether my ear has been trained to pick this up or it is in fact louder.
Mate I test drove a red DSG with about 200 k's on the clock on the weekend. Even my girlfriend could hear the rattle. Both windows were up and the Aircon was on. The tank was full. I mentioned it to the dealer and of course he didn't know anything about it and had never heard of it....
I also drove the manual and couldn't replicate the sound.
Besides the rattle I still prefer the manual, went for spin up Mt Dandenong tourist road and still felt the DSG does whatever the hell it wants anyway. I reckon I'd use the padels for about a week and then it would be full auto mode.....manual is much more fun. Beautiful short, slick and accurate throw and a feather light clutch...love it..
hey guys,
I went over to my dealer today to show him the rattle, before he even jumped in the car he has the disclaimer printed out, It looks like most dealers are already prepared and quite savvy with the problem.......
I'm going to try and get one of my acmi friends to see if he can record the sound clearly this weekend.
The rattle seems to be much better since my tank has been half emptied. This account for my initial observation that it started after I refilled my tank to full level. I left the dealer with only half filled tank.
I was already dubious enough when people were thinking that the octane of the fuel (95 vs 98) was affecting this rattle, which is apparently the rod operating the wastegate. But how on earth could the tank being half full instead of full affect the rod operating the wastegate? I mean, fuel tank pressure would have no affect on even the fuel supply with these cars due to the HPFP and all that. Even then, it'd be fuel supply, nothing to do with the operation of a rod on a wastegate.
The only thing which could be influenced here is weight, causing the car to be at a slightly different angle (due to less weight at the back) - but then that would mean that even slight gradiant changes in the road surface would affect this rattle.
I don't know man... I'd say that changes in temp in Melbourne would be more likely to have an affect on this than how full your petrol tank is...
