I can't imagine how the frightingly common one hand at 12, or worse the cross body one hand at 1 O-clock will cope with the increasing number and frequency of streeing wheel mounted controls?

Well, VW's attitude there is a bit like their attitude with the indicators. Why haven't they changed the handbrake from the passenger side of the centre console to the driver's side, like is is in Germany? ADR's didn't make them so they save money by not doing so and we end up with a less than perfect set-up.

    Wow seriously....

Why did Holden have the handbrake on the RIGHT side of the seat in the VN? commodore?
Why is the Toyota Camry handbrake a pedal? Why do many other manufacturers do that?
Why does the Ford Falcon and many other models and manufacturers use the under-dash slide operated handbrake?
Why do BMW and Mercedes and many others use buttons for handbrakes now?

Will you just get over your "my opinion is the only right way to do things" comments?

Yes, many ways of giving us a parking brake - some so a bench seat can be fitted (Holdens) some to keep the centre console clear and some because they use the same system as the American version where there is only auto (Aurion) but with the Golf VW have chosen to keep it in the centre console and on the driver's side, but of course not for Australia.

Coreying, you are the one who seems to get upset if I express an opinion that doesn't seem to match yours. Obviously VW in Germany think "my opinion is the rightway to do things" too. I think you're the one who needs to get over it. After all, isn't this a VW forum where we all love our VW's and probably all have varying opinions. I simply pointed out something I'd like to see changed on my Golf and have the set-up the Germans do - it's great and I love it but it's slightly less than perfect. A parkbrake and indicator swap would get it that much closer.

Actually you're wrong there too. Other's have been getting annoyed with your "opinion" and hence why there have been numerous requests from several people to close this thread...

And again, for the 1000th time, it's not that you have an opinion on where you like things to be. It's your constant comments that it's because companies have bad attitudes and are cheap.

Don't think they've done that for a while mate hehe, at least 10yrs.

But what I don't get is some of the stupid threads and whining on this forum. I mean ffs, indicator stalk? Go buy a jap/aussie car if you think they're on the wrong side. You're supposed to have 2 hands on the wheel, unless you're a one armed gimp or retarded, are you really not capable of using a stalk on the opposite side?

Sounds like abuse to me..... Why should I get a Jap car? I like my Golf and I'd like it even more with a couple of small changes. I do keep both hands on the wheel even when indicating but I can't when changing gears - and I can't indicate and change gears at the same time. Your comment doesn't make sense. You don't have to read this thread and if you do and you have a different opinion then express it but why get abusive just because you disagree?

it's actually quite common in the states to have a foot operated "e-brake" on the far left of the pedal box.
I was looking for a 1965-1970 vehicle without one, and was having trouble.

Apparently it's done in Japan too, cause i thought it was a clutch pedal when i drove an imported Stagea
