At a fundamental level, no.
At a practical level, the response is entirely different, hence the problem for a lovely wife who has learnt bad habits over a long period of time.

I have the reverse problem.. I'm used to driving my DSG and when I go to a normal auto (especially a petrol engined one as opposed to an oiler) I tend to not give enough throttle and hence take off grandpa style for the first couple of minutes...
Soon get used to it though - just like your wife would get used to the TSI if she drove it more...

Yep, same fundamental issue
Torque converter = slush
New wife?
I know how she feels. I drive a slush (Golf mk3) and I found that driving a Ford Kuga, the pedal is a lot more sensitive, but so are the brakes to me.
It takes a little getting used to but power wise they are the same.
Yes, if you're only driving it only for a bit it's hard to get used to it, but when I drove the newer car solely I adjusted and was able to drive it comfortably.
maybe get a multi-profile remap with valet mode for her.
If you doun't want to spend money then have a look at her seating position & how she places her foot & controls the throttle?
When my wife started driving she was very jerky on both throttle & brake. It turns out that she was using her whole leg to actuate the two controls (like a stairwalker machine) with the pedals under her instep rather than the ball of the foot or toes. She wasn't using the fine motor capaability of her ankle.
Also, her footwear was inapropriate (very thin soles).
I think if you get her to drive it more, eventually the process will become 2nd nature.... although my wife absolutely refuses to drive my manual Octavia because she can't get the throttle right & revs the crap out of it.
Install the APR Stage 1 trial and have her drive the car
Remove the trial or let it expire (6 hours)
Acceleration will be reduced (from Stage 1) :)
It's just a case of her being used to one car and not driving the Golf much. If she drove it exclusively for 3 weeks she'd be fine.
Mate, coming from experience, my 118 requires more than 30 % throttle if you want it to fly.... She is most likely mashing the pedal and that's when the wheels spin, looking at 15PSI with the car not moving= Christmas traction control light
