    Weird sound on acceleration

Just wondering if it's something that needs changing or replacing because sometimes when I accelerate (little steeper than usual) at one stage there is a weird sound comes from the front of the car that sounds like a can of paint with the ball inside it being shaken.

Then when you slow down and DSG drops to the 2nd gear and then you accelerate a little shudder comes on, feels like wheels are skidding but they're actually not.

Not sure if it's normal but it does sounds really weird. It doesn't happen all the time though.

The noise you are hearing.....the 7 speed DSG used in these models is actually quite noisy when it changes gears. If you have the window down you can very easily hear it clicking (metallic clicking sound) when it changes gears. Ive driven several of the 7 speed DSG's (brand new cars) over the past few months and all of them made this sound. Is this the sound you are hearing?

As for the shuddering - there is a thread on here which is all about the DSG shuddering on the 7 speeds. Getting the clutches changed seems to fix the issue.

Here is the link to the DSG shudder thread > http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...ues-45873.html

Thanks, the noise is like someone is shaking aluminium can with a metal ball inside it... not sure if you know what I mean...

Hi dieterbohlen (best user name ever btw)

Take it to the dealer and drive around with the head mechanic to demonstrate the sound.
I have done the same as I had all sorts of weird noises (clunck, shutter, pinging). I have over the course of 1 year replaced the waterpump, clutchpack, mechatronik and a new gearbox (all under warranty). The dealer was actually quite keen to get all my problems sorted. I assume its good money for them when they recharge VAG for the warranty work. The car is currently in the shop for a not engaging park brake when in "P", the pinging noise when accelerating and rough idle at startup.

Again, if you need something checked out and fixed the dealer is you best bet. And yes the 7speed is quite noisy when changing gears.

    Cheers,
    regu

Lucas_R has pointed you to the correct thread about the shudder.

With the rattling sound, is this like a constant "tick tick tick" for a few seconds? Also, do you hear this with the windows up? Next time it happens, could you check your rear view mirror to see if your car is belching fumes?

The DQ200 DSG is noisy, but you shouldn't really be able to hear much with the windows up.

Yes I drive with windows up and can hear it clearly inside the car however there are no fumes.

Could also be the wastegate rattling. Is the noise around 2-3000RPM?

Appologies for hijacking the thread, but I also have this on occassions and on one occassion noticed a screen of smoke left at the intersection. The dealer diagnosed it as inner right guard rattling 'lol'. Haven't heard it since (2 mths), but it did only happen occassionally. Can you please shed some light on this cktsi

Tick tick tick... Exactly as you describe it (ball bearings inside a can or nail polish - heck I am girl) I only hear it when I am accelerating hard when already doing 90+ Kim's and want to over take. I have been told it is normal..... Still freaks me out when I hear it .

Well, this is your thread!! If it is a rattling sound with no regular rhythmn / beat, I don't know what the cause is. What about Snail Style's question on whether it happens 2k-3k rpm's ?

If it is a regular tick tick sound followed by smoke, someone in the "shudder thread" mentioned that a dealer stating the cause as a mechatronics issue. I've had my mechatronics replaced & haven't experience it since then... so there could be a correlation.

It is hard to replicate unfortunately right in front of the dealer, and they normally don't do anything unless you can.

However, the shudder should be easier to replicate. Often if you are crawling forward & turn your steering wheel full lock you can induce the shudder.

You can try to replicate the tick tick tick + plume of smoke by driving up a really steep hill in 5th gear. It doesn't always replicate, but that was the most common situation when that issue presented itself.
