Check the engine oil with the dipstick anyway... Did the mechanic fail to tighten the oil drain plug or filter (so the oil leaked out)..?
Stranger things have happened...
Hello,
I had my car serviced just over a week ago. This evening when I tried starting up my car, the engine won't start at all. The error indicator said "stop: oil pressure".
The lights, radio etc all work fine. So my question is, what are the likely reasons & solutions for this?
I would have suspected oil's run out, but given the annual service was just over a week ago, they would have refilled the engine oil. Maybe it's a low oil pressure issue?
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the quick reply @hoi polloi
I will get it checked out in the morning and let you know
Do you have a spin on type oil filter? I've seen it before when a little valve pops out of the housing and sometimes people dont realise, this causing no oil pressure... Also the wrong oil filter might have also been used... Some things to check seems like a service error opposed to a car fault due to the recent service and oil pressure warning... Hope your engine hasn't seized mate. Where was your service?
How long are you cranking it for before the oil warning comes on? More than 8+ seconds and it will....thats normal for excessive cranking...VDUB....

@vdubmotorworx I cranked it for about 6-8 seconds
Just as an update, I rang roadside assist. The guy said the issue was that the oil level was already low. When my car was parked on an incline, the oil must've tipped to one side, meaning the oil censor on the other side thought the car ran out of oil.
So he put the car into neutral and reversed it onto a flat surface, and now the car runs smoothly, no problems.
The interesting thing is that I had my car serviced a week prior. So I suspect that the mechanic didn't re-fill the oil. I've booked in a time for them to check the car just to make sure nothing else's wrong, and will keep you updated on the progress.
Was the service done at dealer, vw specialist or a general mechanic like kmart auto service?
The service was done at a VW dealership, where they had a service department
Hey,
Just as an update. The service department at the dealership checked everything, including the oil levels and said that they were all okay.
Their conclusion was that my car must've been low on fuel, and parked on an incline, which caused the car not to start. I think that's case closed.
Had that happen a few times in my GTI with our steep driveway, roll it on the flat and all good. Then go and fill up with fuel.
