LOL this place is farken evil I tell you! I didn't have ACC or 19's in my original spec but somehow they found their way in...

If I got to check out the seats in person and liked them even a little bit, I'd probably give in and go into denial about the price hehe. But won't tick the box sight unseen when the base leather seats are as nice as they are.

The Recaros are firmer, not as adjustable, don't have the side airbags, and may not have the "return to previous position" feature that the regular seats do (important in the 3 door if you have people in the back regularly). They are harder to get in and out of than the regular seats (not for me, but this is a criticism that many "older" or less mobile/flexible people have had of them. I think that one of the main advantages of the motorsport-style seat is their ability to be used with a racing harness, which you can't use on the roads anyway.
I don't think that the regular seats were a disadvantage around Eastern Creek, nor did I hear Steve Owen complain when chucking the R into turn 1 at 200kph
So yeah - unless you have had a chance to check them out and go for a little run in them, and see whether you could live with them day in and out, I'd stick with the regular seats.

Yep that was me. There are definately at least 4 R's in NSW with Recaro's that I have seen, or heard from dealers that they have in stock. This is in NSW only . I'm sure someone would have at least 1 in VIC.

Yes it is!! I now have an R coming instead of a GTi and arrggh.. I cant wait!!

As for the seats, Yeah If I see them and they are as unbelievable as they look etc.. It would be on!

See regarding whether the seats are better worse.. its a muchness. My dealer mentioned for instance that getting leather will make the butt-ox slide around more. But to be honest, If I had more coin, I would lean into the leather for sure!! And again with the recaros.. RECAROS PEOPLE!! These seats are soo good if your into the sporty side of the golf. Im getting the standard R seats myself which are a bit meh I reckon personally but thats me.. Those seats are in the R8 or something kinky like that arent they?

Yeah I'm fine with all the items you mentioned but its more about the comfort. My lower back is fairly average from a couple car accidents so if I'm in an uncomfortable seat for too long it gets a bit painful. I had no issues in the standard leather seats for nearly 45mins.

Yep, few pages back the white 3 dr delivered from Barloworld bayside I believe.

I did not have any issue with sliding around on my test drive around yarra boulevard (Melbourne people will understand).

I'm in the same situation as you then, but not due to a car accident. For me, the standard seats in the GTI/R, once adjusted correctly, are awesome. I can sit on them with a single 10 minute stop between Sydney and Brisbane and get out of the car and still feel relatively fresh (enough to go for a ride on my road bicycle). The motorsports seats I couldn't get that adjustability to be comfortable for an hour....

So make sure you do take the time to both look at them, and spend a few hours in them (even if it's just sitting in a dealer lot whilst reading a book or something, lol)

    a) there were no R's in the country with race seats
    b) they are customer order only
Yet their partner dealer in Bayside has delivered at least one R with the seats LOL.

There is nothing worse than an arrogent salesperson who lacks the ability to simply admit they're not sure. How hard would it have been to say sorry we don't have any here?
LOL, yep mine is the first one that Barloworld Bayside Morabin delivered with the recaro's...

They let you take it there for a test drive!? I only drove there in my own ride but I had no trouble with my leather seats up there
