Price difference between Golf GTI and Golf R:
The Golf GTI 3 door manual costs $38,990, so "base to base model" there is $9,500 difference. However, the Golf R's standard items contains several of the GTI's options:
Metallic Paint $500
Bi-Xenon $2,000
18" Wheels $1,200
Tinted rear glass $400
This brings the cost difference down to $5,400.
In addition, the Golf R also includes front and rear PDC which is worth around $1000, bringing the difference to around $4,400. It also includes the highly desirable LED taillights which GTI owners are spending upwards of $1,000 to have fitted - $3,400. You then have AWD, a more powerful engine, better brakes, better suspension etc...
Of course, some people just want a base model. Other people select many options, so the difference in cost between a Golf GTI and Golf R will really come down to each person's requirements. Either way, both cars are great value.
