Most big Mercs have front wheels that adjusts the camber as it turns at low speeds which isn't unlike how a bike corners. That's what gives it a tighter turning radius.
The 4WD gear seems to cause this large turn circle. Ditto with my Evo. That was always a gamble. I ended up avoiding u turns on major roads. In case I had to do a 3 point turn.
Dont they have limiters when 19s are fitted ?
Yeah... the only people who complain about the R's turning circle are the boys on 19" rims. They're wider than any other Golf rim and I think VW have gone a bit conservative in ensuring that it won't scrape the inside of the wheel well or something. The R's turning circle isn't significantly worse than any other small/medium car I've owned or used... otherwise I wouldn't be able to get out of the tight spot at work where cars like Ford F6E's etc need to do 3 point turns. lol
I have 19s and noticed the turning circle was a bit larger than expected, I am used to it now though. What is this limiter you speak of? I have been thinking of changing to 18" rims (I only got 19s for the black headlights anyway), is there something that needs setting to change this limiter?
RB Golf R doesnt have this problem :)
