Yep, as adzy indicated, that makes much more sense.
It's also the conclusion we've come to each time it's been bought up.
You have 3 cars, all built from the same platform - Golf R (RRP $48,490+), Audi S3 (RRP $69,000+) and Audi TT-S (RRP $97,364+). So due to the car pricing structure (and tax structure) of this country, the TT-S is substantially more than the S3. So when the engine used in the S3 went from 188kw to 199kw around the world, Australia decided to leave it at 188kw to create more of a differentiation between it and the TT-S. So when Volkswagen come along with the R, they can hardly release it with 199kw and have the S3 still at 188kw.
Anyway... if you're concerned about reliability - don't upgrade. Or make sure the intercooler is part of your upgrade.
