since i ordered an R i guess i will be biased
but none of the cars excite me much except for the 335i
if you are even considering on ordering an R i would be assuming you wanted a practical daily drive hot hatch so basically your list is pointless as none of those fit the criteria

and for being open minded? i don't see how a person is open minded when they ask other peoples views and never replying to them

Nice - the only problem from a marketing POV is that current laws still prohibit P platers from driving cars that are turbocharged. I am assuming that P-platers make up a large share of that segment of the market so most of them would exlude it from their list of possibles. Which is a pity really.

Well you are correct coming from a Queenslander's perspective. Our government hasn't been intelligent enough to construct an exemption list therefore making this car illegal for P platers (such as myself) to drive.

The BMW is the only one of these that seems even remotely comparable to a Golf. I can't imagine any of the others being anywhere near as satisfying to drive. FWIW you're fortunate in where you live - used car prices seem a lot lower in NSW. The cheapest 335i convertible listed on carsales in Perth is $82k and has over 40,000 km on it.

Picking a second-hand BMW over a brand new Golf R is not unreasonable, but don't kid yourself that introduction of the 77TSI has anything to do with why a rational person would pick one or the other. Personally I would prefer a hatchback to a coupe or sedan in most circumstances, and have no interest at all in luxo-barges like the Lexus or Toorak tractors like the Cayenne or Q7. But that's a personal and subjective point of view, and it's why there's a lot of cars on the market to cater to different people's requirements.

I was never a 2nd hand fan.. But cars are depreciating faster than ever.. Some real hot cars at great prices.. As new and saving 50-70% off new sticker price.

If you had mentioned a used STI, EVO X MR or a BMW 135I i might have taken noticed. But it seems to me all you are interested in is image. That's the real reason you chose the Golf R in the first place. It was the most expensive Golf you could afford.

If that wasn't the case you wouldn't have started the argument by using a fully loaded Golf R price to justify your list. Come back with a $50K list. About the absolute best price of a base spec Golf R.

I earn well into 6 figures and run a consulting business on the side that gives another 6 figures in itself. I am sorted buddy. Cars are my passion. And yes, image matters. I put my company logo on it!

When I was 21, I drooled over the release of R32.. Grey with blue tinted glass.. Wow.. It was the car of the moment and it wasn't within my budget at that time. Now it's comfortably in my budget. I am looking for a car about the $60k mark as I don't want to head into luxury car tax territory..

I am considering all options in that bracket. Size doesn't matter, but practicality does.. I need a big ass boot (flat folding rear seats) and ability to put roof racks on it..

If image is so important then wouldn't you be better off to stick with Merc, BMW or Audis?
Or perhaps if as what has been said luxo barge will depreciate like a stone in the water, then perhaps get a Bentley?

That's the real reason you chose the Golf R in the first place. It was the most expensive Golf you could afford.

Unfortunately I think that happens with a lot of things. I swear 85% of R32's I see on the road are driven by the most boring kents around cos I've heard 2L FSI's make more noise. GTI's included and I have no doubt that the R won't be far behind.

Lots of people are too status orientated, flouting their wares. Meh sucks to be them I say.
