I believe you hold the brake on, and push the accelerator to 3000RPM.
Lift the brake and away you go.
It engages launch control if you do this and is apparently the best way to do it.
What techniques are being used to get a fast get away from the lights in a Golf VI with DSG? I would like to know what works best.
I have been getting off the brake and then getting on the throttle lightly until rolling. Once rolling and I feel the clutch is fully engaged I then apply full throttle. My technique is smooth but not the fastest.
Cheers,
Dave.

What he Said ^^^^^
But do remember you will have a slight pause on pull away first. So factor that in.

There is only launch control on the GTI and R32. trying it in anything else is likely to damage the gearbox.
I find a light use of handbrake works well, as the foot brake disengages the clutch until released. using the hand brake to hold the car back until it bits then floor it.
That is one of the downsides of the gearbox over either a regular auto or manual.
currrently... MY10 GTI | DSG | Candy White | Sunroof | 18's | BT | MDI

7dsg does not have launch control. Its designed and set up for economy not the track.
I find on hill starts using hand brake deactivates hill hold and i can better synchronise brake release and clutch engagement using the handbrake. Handbrake-clutch co-ordination for a quick getaway might also work on level ground.
Tiptronic take up is more responsive (and more sudden), so using the tiptronic will help.

Can't see why VW can't get this right. After all, their claim is that the DSG changes gears in a nanosecond. So if you are already in D and stationery, and release the brake, it should instantly select 1st gear. Logger might explain that it's got 1st or reverse preselected, but I can't see why when you already in D, ie you are planning to go forward.
If you blip the accelerator a second or 2 before launch, i believe it selects first gear and allows a quicker take off.
Well now that I've done my first 2000k's is it an appropriate time to trial launch control? (Yes it is a GTI, so has launch control)
Yeah - this technique was mentioned in the 6spd DSG for dummies - Funny's unofficial guide at GolfMKV forums. Unfortunately I don't have a DSG car to test it right now, but I'd sure love it if someone else tried this and reported (both for 7sp and 6sp DSG).
Btw, the 'DSG lag' from standstill has reportedly been all but eliminated in the Golf R.
