I chose what type of transmission looking at it simply. Do I want Manual or Auto. The handful of reasons for me choosing Auto (DSG) came down to what was going to suit me best and not what others think is the better of the two. There are merits for both and I've had both. For me I kinda get the best of both to some extent albeit no third pedal.
So far I've had no issues with the dsg and I don't regret my choice. I didn't option dsg to be quicker by a few hundredths of a second.

My reasons for what I choose are my reasons. I don't need to defend why I chose what I've got to anyone. This rubbish how we must justify and defend our choices is primary school stuff. Opinions are great but just that, opinions.
Can't we all have different views and still be courteous and refrain from unkind comments? It would be a pretty boring situation if we all drove identical cars!

It would have been more enlightening perhaps if you had shared why you chose DSG rather than telling us two factors that had no bearing on your decision:
- quicker gear changes;
- what other people think (as if that needed to be said).
My view is that DSG misses out on two of the most important benefits of the manual - very high levels of reliability and driver involvement - perhaps the reason the just-released 1M BMW coupe only comes in a 6-speed manual.
