Hey Mate,
Your Carbon Steel is on the same boat as my carbon steel! hehe
Ive ordered Black Euro Icon plates with the southern cross symbol. Ordered them last night

Indeed, the photos only show the "as built" GTI configuration, as I guess no-one has yet fitted this configuration (slimline plate on full-size bracket) to their new GTI. Once I get my plate brackets, and the car to put them on (early Apr I expect after clearing customs, PDI, etc), I will take photos and post them here and send them to Lakin Plates to update their website.
You will see other photos on the website of what the number plate brackets themselves look like; if you can imagine it, I will have a black metal plate bracket completely covering the front plastic thing on the Golf, with no screws or holes visible as they will be behind my (slimline Euro) plate mounted in the centre of said bracket.
Saw a picture. It's basically just a sheet of black metal that the small euro can sit ontop of.
Apologies if others have posted this before...
Saw a GTI this afternoon, with the premium (slimline, 371mm x 83mm) white-on-black plate on the standard numberplate bracket. Took a photo to indicate how it looks on the standard bracket:

So, to confirm, the plate doesn't completely cover either of the mounting holes.
Yeah - it really ugly-ups the car doesn't it. I've no idea what VW are thinking on that one :)
Yeah - It would be nice if the front plate holder was an option.
I have seen other GTI pics without these, obviously OS models.....
So - the plate mounting bracket and cover for me then :)
Why not just get Euro style plates that fill the whole thing?
I know i will be.
