Ours has the noise, approx 1000km on the clock, although it only makes the noise sometimes - especially under high load in 4th gear I can get it to make the noise although it's not loud enough to drive me nuts. Can't hear it over the radio at average volume and it's not a full-time thing just yet. Will definitely have my name on the list once they're issuing a fix but as long as it's not damaging the engine there's no rush.
I first heard the chirp around 2000K, but only noticed it because of this forum. I've ignored it till now, but at 7000K on the clock, I'm damned if I can hear it at all! Either I'm getting deafer or it's become quieter.
Lots of other things to drive me nuts, this one doesn't rate.
I have started to hear the squeal i'm at 1200k's and only when i shift into 4th gear. doesnt really bother me that much. but a fix on it would be good
It's drives me nuts but my wife drives it daily but doesn't bother her. The car makes a noise every time I accelerate... I booked it in to VW service to check it out before they confirmed its a known issue, but will not damage the car etc etc.
Hi, I own a 118tsi and I too have this noise. It is a squeak/chirp, like a small bird chirp, that occurs just after I press the accelerator. It also occurs sometimes when cruise control is on and I go up a hill, so I figured it was something to do with the accelerator etc. Brought it in for a service and was told that evening that it is a recognised fault due to waterpump/solenoid and something I didn't quite catch. At the moment there is no recognised solution and any work that was carried out the mechanic would not be refunded by VW. He didn't know if a solution was forthcoming but the documentation noted that it would not cause any structural problems. Funnily, the noise seems less prominent after I have been driving for longer than 1 hour.
I hope they come up with a fix soon as it's a bit annoying. I wish they told me about it before I bought the car since it is a recognised problem.
I also haven't been impressed with the service I received from VW billbuckle, quite shoddy actually. I guess because I wasn't wearing a suit they didn't take me seriously.
Hope this info is useful for prospective buyers and those with the problem.
My car now has 14,000 on the odo and the issue has now gone away. Has anyone else with high km noticed the same?
Unfortunately the fuel belch is still there (running theory is clutch not engaging properly on those occasions)
