• Shanghai Volkswagen reveal New Passat ahead of Auto China 2011 in April


    Shanghai Volkswagen have revealed first images of their New Passat. Which will replace the aging New Passat Lingyu, itself based on the fifth generation Passat platform which dates back itself to do B5 Audi A4 (1994-2001).

    Shanghai Volkswagen and Volkswagen of America co-developed the NMS - New Midsize Sedan from the sixth generation Passat platform (2005-2010). The Americans unveiled their version of NMS at the beginning of the year at the Detroit Auto Show see here, with three power plants unique to the US - 2.5L 5-cylinder with 125 kW / 170hp, 3.6L V6 with 206kW / 280hp and a 2.0L TDI with 102kW /140hp.

    Shanghai Volkswagen have not released full details of their engine range, although intel with the Chinese we can gather that the range will comprise of:

    -1.4L TSI with 96kW /129hp available in manual and DSG with a combined fuel consumption of 5.7L per 100km
    -1.8L TSI with 118kW / 160hp available in Auto and DSG with a combined fuel consumption of 6.0L per 100km
    -2.0L TSI with 147kW / 200hp available in DSG with a combined fuel consumption of 6.3L per 100km

    Differences between the two nations engines and features from the pictures released so far, reveal top of the line Shanghai Volkwagen New Passats have LED details in the headlights compared to the American Passats with just their standard halogen powered headlights.
