My TDI wagon is a few weeks old and about to go in for its first quick dealer check up.

Among the questions I plan to ask is what is the correct interval before it's first full service, since the dealer windscreen stickers say 15,000km, whilst the system info and schedule booklet give 30,000km or 2 years for inspection and up to two years for an oil change service if LongLife engine oil is used (taken from p2 of the booklet and the vehicle data sticker showing a PR No. of QI6).

Would appreciate others understanding / interpretation of the situation before I get talked into under-doing or over-doing it!

Every 15,000kms or 12 months for Australian-delivered cars, regardless of PR numbers and what the book says.

The service book is pretty much only good for recording your service history in, as the information in it is largely irrelevent to our market.

what he said^^^^.

We don't do variable in Australia.

I'd also add that if you drive under any of the "severe service" categories such as frequent short trips, stop/start traffic, etc (it's in the manual) that you should service even more frequently (every 7500-10,000km).

You have a DPF so have to use 507.00 spec oil no matter what service regime you choose.

Maybe use Canberra VW Centre for the interim services?

I change my oil myself every 7500km between the scheduled services. Penrite enviro+ is a 507.00 warranty approved. 5w-30 [emoji106]

Either his driving conditions meet the criteria stated in the owners manual for severe service

or

because he can.

I do mine every 7500km because I had the oil sitting on the shelf doing nothing, then my mech started using engine flush because he was concerned that the lines to the turbo were sludging, so I just kept doing 7500km services & he doesn't use engine flush.

I've done used oil anlysis at 15,000km & the oil hadn't degraded but for <$100 for oil & filter I just do it.

My 90tsi has done 8500km, so still haven't had my first service. I've driven it very hard, so should I change the oil and filter or just leave it?

Just leave it until 15,000km. You're still running in.

Transporter will say to change it. He might be right.

Yes, change it. I'm sure if you check the production date on your car you would find out it's already at least 12 months old.

I've picked up Amarok in February this year, the car was made 6/2013 and the dealer wrote on the service sticker January 2015 date. The car would be 19 months old. I know that some car owners could be even a bit late for the service, which means that in some cases the first oil change is at 24months.

So, always check the production date and take from there, don't just trust that service sticker.

My tsi Highline started a thirty day countdown to an oil change at 6000km. I did it myself and cancelled the message manually.
Took about an hour. The plastic sump guard was the only hassle, it's held on by about a dozen torx screws.
