Didn't stamp my log book or reset the service reminder and while labour cost for the servicing is cheap but labour for replacing my brakes seem a little excessive. If I didn't needed to get it done quickly I think I would've gone to Seb instead.

I had the 15.000 km service done by VW Village and was happy with the service and price. They picked up some warranty issues that were dealt with by the VW dealer under warranty, will be back for my next service.

I know it's an old post, but I'm also wondering who/where is "SEB"? I'm looking for recomendations besides VW Village too..

Digging up an old thread I know.

Recently had a major service carried out at VW Village, can't say I was 100% happy with them. I was happy that the price was cheaper than what I was told, and they didn't seem to forget anything (that I have noticed). Wasn't happy that I had to ring them an hour after it was meant to be finished only to find it was ready to be picked up, not to mention the mess they left behind from changing the cabin filter.

Found them good but not great.

Thanks! Good descriptive feedback.

Price??

Thanks! Good descriptive feedback.

Price??

No probs.

It was $680 for a fourth year service (without servicing the DSG).

I must note, I was told around $400 when I rang to book, when I dropped the car off it was around $800, when I picked it up it was just under $700.

Even without saying its expensive or not.. That's just terrible communication and customer service.

While I can't speak for VW Village, nor am I taking a shot at you, but one of the problems I see a lot, is customers not being able give an accurate description of their car when it comes to booking an appointment.

Make, model, year, engine size, petrol/diesel, auto/manual can have a MASSIVE effect on the quote or estimate.

You've only got to look at the difference in servicing costs between a 60K on a MK5 diesel manual, and a MK5 DSG R32. One could be around $400, the other, closer to a grand or more.

As I said intially, this may not have been the issue at all, but if VW Village had given you a worst-case scenario on price, it may have spooked you to go elsewhere. Not good for them. Alternatively, they could've undercut themselves, or had to result in looking bad by giving you an inflated price on the final invoice over what was quoted. Not good for either of you.

Food for thought.

I'd say they would have asked for those details when giving the quote. I can't think of anywhere that would quote without knowing the vehicle details.

You'd be surprised!

I have seen the example I used actually play out in real life. Resulted in a lot of finger-pointing, number-fudging, and just generally a bad vibe for all concerned.

yeah, not good then. I guess the more questions, before work starts, the better ... hopefully resulting in a much closer quote too.

I gave them details of my car and its service history when I booked it in over the phone. It wasn't until I dropped my car off that he explained the different levels of servicing required for my car in further detail.

As far as I'm concerned it's up to the workshop to have a system in place to provide an accurate quote to the customer, it's not that hard for them to ask a few questions.

It would of been a huge inconvenience for me to decline the service on the day as I had taken the day off work and they are a 45min drive from home.

In regards to the service itself, it needed the works (oil and filter change (of course), spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, brake fluid, cabin filter) as it had been under serviced by the previous (well known) workshop.

Yeah, absolutely.

Looking back on what I posted, it reads as though I was shifting the responsibility on to you. Not my intention.

I didn't take it that way. :)

Can you tell me Umai Naa, they say they changed cabin filter but I'm now getting really strong smells (could smell the garlic from an italian resturant as I drove by lol) comming into the cabin. Is it possible to put the wrong type of filter in? (Or they have forgotten to put one in all together.)

I'm going to ring them about it tomorrow.

Ok I will jump in here.

I brought my Polo from a Sydney guy who had George at VW Village do revo Stage 1 then 2, plus some other mods to it. I rang George about a year ago to just check what he recalled about my Polo. George was happy to assist me.

I rang him again a few weeks ago to ask for assistance, as I am unable to find an approved Revo tuner here in sunny Queensland, as there isn't one:facepalm:.

George was really happy to spend some more phone time and look at his records and offer suggestions to assist me. He said to call him again and recommended I buy a SPS tool and also use a VagCom to do dome logging which I could email to him and he would review and advise of tuning adjustments. Seems like a reasonable operator our George at VW Village!

I have a better offer from our Gavin, thank you Gavin......

You could pop the filter out, and have a look at it. There should be a diagram on here somewhere, or possibly somewhere else, that shows how to get it out. It's pretty simple, but difficult to explain clearly.

You'll know if it's been in there a long time, if it weighs about half a kilo, and a whole heap of foliage and leaf litter is trapped in it.

Honestly, I don't want to seem like I'm second-guessing a competitor's work, as it would be unprofessional to do so. You should probably call them if you have a concern. They'd appreciate to hear if there were any possible issues with their work, so as to give them an opportunity to sort it out.

From what I've seen, they look like a very professional outfit, and there were a nice collection of cars on the forecourt and in the workshop when I drove past a few months back. I hope they're doing ok in the current economical climate. A lot of places aren't.

No probs thanks.

There was a very nice CW Golf R there when I arrived, along with quite a few more cars. It looks like they are doing alright for themselves.

For the record, I don't want it to come accross like I'm not happy with their service, they did everything they said they would, car was ready close enough to on time, and it ended up cheaper than what I was told when I dropped it off.

The main this is, my car feels the better than it has in ages.

look, it's called 'recomendations on ...', and people should be able to write what their experiences were, as long as it's probably after they've cooled down a little that is, :-) and the information is clear and correct.

Also, I believe that it's necessary to have tried to resolve it first (if unhappy) with the person/company in question. I know that if anyone was unhappy with any work I'd done, I'd love the chance to fix it before hearing about it on a forum or through a 3rd party. I am also aware that some people feel that if they confront the person/company that they will 'have it in for them' next time they come in. We can only hope that people aren't that callous ...

I would stay away from village vw
they have left all bar 1 bolt and a couple of clips to hold my skid pan on :(
avoid this place, if you like your vw :)
they will cut corners where they think they can get away with it

A bit of a follow up on my issue.

Rang VW Village to speak to them about the fumes entering the cabin after the cabin filter was changed at the service. Whoever I spoke to seemed completely uninterested in the problem, I asked him what filter was used, he had no idea and was adament it wasn't the filter. The only solution he offered was to leave my car with them for a day. Not practical when I live over 30mins away and can only leave it with them on Saturdays.

To add to this, I had the check oil light come on today after less than 4500km of suburban driving. Checked the oil level, below low on the dipstick. Very soon considering it uses about 1L of oil per 10,000km.

Hi Guys,

Thanks.

I'd also like to know whether a few years on VW Village is still good.

I've got some quotes back from the usual suspects (Village, Mullerhaus, Camden GTI) and Village came back the most competitive. They are also closer to home. But if they aren't what they used to be, I rather go somewhere else.

Any recent feedback on VW Village? Had a read through their google reviews and the negative ones sound legitimate. Doesn't really instill confidence. The positive reviews are good though...

Where did you go in the meantime Johnte?

VW village put a broken and sticky taped coil pack back into my golf r after a major service that they misquoted me on.

Told me they would charge me to fix the issue after it was misfiring like crazy and to goto VW Warranty.. took my car off the road for 2 weeks, a dead battery and then time at VW warranty sent me a photo of a sticky taped coil and rang VW village to which they did not dispute and spent the 5 minutes to replace the coil.

had a big write up about it on here but it was deleted, unfortunately a mod here has a problem with people being scared off dodgy operators working on their expensive vehicles.

Hello, I recently used VWVILLAGE for a dodgy transmission that I feared was the dreaded valve body problem - VW took one look and said that I needed a new tranny, $6,600 please. They didn't charge me for that advice. So, I took the Golf to VWVILLAGE out of a little desperation and after a couple fo hours they figured out how to get the car worked normally again for $450. I told them VW told me I needed a new transmission. Oh how we laughed...

...anyway, VWVILLAGE seemed pretty good from my experience.

I'm reading the stories. Some more inform FWIW: a guy I chatted to when I picked up the car told me that he was the founder that he's now passed the shop on to his two sons. The shop seems crazy busy and like many indie specialists they use VW as a rule of thumb for billing ... I used to the use BMW guy that did the same thing... cheaper, sure... but still more expensive that a good local mechanic. I must say also that the Golf is a daily bog standard car (save for the transmissions and we all know how bullet proof they are... oh, wait...) so I wouldn't bother trying to find a VW specialist unless you have major engine woes or drive DSG...

I can only talk from my own experience.

I thought they were good guys / mechanic up until a sticky taped coil went back in after paying for a major service and getting told to goto VW warranty. I just do the work myself now , much cheaper and less headache.
