View Full Version : Group Buy: Aftermarket Bixenon Headlights (WinPower Lamps)
Disclaimer
I am organising this group buy to help upgrade as many headlights as possible. There is nothing in it for me other than getting headlights at a great price with as many enthusiasts as possible.
As I'm sure all of you already know, the standard halogen Mk7 Golf headlights are pretty average. A few of us on the forum have replaced the bulbs with varying levels of improvement. Until recently aftermarket xenons were OEM which were more expensive to buy than optioning the xenons at the time of ordering the car. Aftermarket replicas on the market but were of questionable quality. I’ve been researching other forums and have finally found a decent set of lights worth purchasing without breaking the bank.
Although I've done all this research, I'd like you to also look through my resources to confirm that you are happy to purchase these lights. I am not responsible for the product we are sent, my research only minimises the chance of receiving poorly built/performing headlights.
Please refer to the multiple links in this thread and post 88 in Headlights (http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f197/headlights-87200-9.html)
Please ignore the greyed out text, updated pricing is below.
Pricing:
GB pricing would be $US385/set, they are usually $US545 a set.
P&H: You can choose from EMS $US195 (15-25 days) OR FedEx $US224 (3-5 days).
Therefore headlights will cost $US580 (shipped with EMS) or $US609 (shipped with FedEx)
Payment will be directly to WPlamps via Paypal once I've compiled the list of buyers.
Minimum Group Buy numbers:
Either 20 sets of V2 headlights
OR
10x V2 and 10x GTi

$US399/set for V2 or GTi
P&H: You can choose from EMS $US195 (15-25 days) OR FedEx $US224 (3-5 days).
This would mean the headlights will cost $US594 ($AUD633) when shipped with EMS.
BUT there is also a Paypal fee, usually $US25 but Mark stated on payment we put $US600 (which means Paypal takes $US25, they get $US575).
Therefore the FINAL price of the headlights including P&H is $US600 ($AUD639).
Payment will be directly to WPlamps via Paypal once I've compiled the list of buyers.
Updated EOIs so far:
Please refer to post #50 on page 5 to see the updated EOIs. Couchmotorist has taken over the GB with thanks.
Group Buy Process
Once we have sufficient numbers, I will tabulate the orders in a form. We will Paypal Mark the contact at WP lamps who will provide you with your own tracking number. Standard shipping took 4 weeks for the Brazilian GB so I suspect ours will be 3-4 weeks for standard EMS shipping.

V2 and GTi headlights look and should operate like OEM Highline/GTi headlights HOWEVER they DON'T have self-levelling, active cornering assist functions or headlight washers. The headlights can be adjusted up and down as you would usually do for the OEM halogen headlights (ie. Under the bonnet and from inside the car). The GTi version is the V2 with a red GTi stripe.
The version of V2 lights available for us in RHD are bi-xenon with supplementary H7 Halogen for highbeam, both DRL U's light up.

Installation
Apparently the installation of the headlights is pretty easy. Removal of the central grill and removal of the bolts that hold the side of the front bumper in place. The front bumper does not need to be completely removed from the car for the installation. The installation is almost exactly the same as Mk6 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCrmc_d68MI & Volkswagen Golf 6 Headlight Installation -- About News -- 新闻动态 -- Win power International Technology Co.,Ltd Official Website (http://www.wplamps.com/Shownew.aspx?id=67)) but without the complete detachment of the front bumper.
Solvalou's description outlining what he is referring to in the first video link below:
"The installation is very easy. If you watched my video Ill try to explain some stuff I said in the video.
Bumper and front grill uses Torx T25 screws. The headlight uses Torx T30 screws. There are also 2 M10 10mm screws that need to be removed inside the bumper so you can unsnap the side of the bumper.
First I show in the video 4 screws you need to remove from inside the wheel compartment. Then there are 2 more underneath the bumper. After that you need to unscrew 2 more screws on the front grill. After that you need to pull the front grill towards your direction to unsnap it from that other plastic plastic behind it. The main lock is located near that hole that I show in the video. When you unsnap it and the front grill is loose, you need to move it up to disconnect it from the bumper.
There are 4 screws on the headlight. I show them on the video. One I couldn't show because the front grill was blocking it and also there is a side one that the bumper was blocking. The one at the back of the headlight that is deeper inside you don't need to remove completely, just unscrew it a little bit and you will be able to slide the headlight out. Also remember that even after removing all the headlight screws you need to pull the bumper a little bit toward the front of the car because there are some hooks at the front of the headlight underneath the bumper holding it in place. After you pulled the bumper you need to move the headlight a little bit up to free up the hooks so you can slide it out. Remember also to remove the main headlight harness cable before you pull it out.
You just need to do everything in in reverse order to install the new headlight."

Insurance
Paypal insurance is really the only thing covering you so I would insist on checking the headlights out as soon as you receive them. There is a warranty period (below) but M4rko's experience a few years back, in post 346, it seems once the deal is done they're not interested.

I've been assured by Mark, WPlamps contact, the packaging has improved since then and they have not had any returns due to damage in transit since. Solvalou's description of recent packaging is reassuring.

Paypal covers the following things:
- If an order doesn’t arrive or match the seller’s description
- You received a completely different item.

Warranty
12 month warranty on the bulbs and ballasts.
Packaging
This is a picture from a thread on VWVortex for WP lamps B7 Passat headlight installation. I would expect the headlights to be delivered in similar packaging.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/07/Firstlamp-1.jpg
Solvalou's description of the packaging when he received his headlights:
"It comes very nicely packaged. It has nice quality foam protecting it and each headlight comes in its own box. Both boxes come inside a bigger box. Examining it in detail I noticed that the build construction is really good. It looks like an OEM headlight from VW."
PAYPAL CLAIMS if required
A. How do I open a dispute on a transaction?
If you haven't received your item or the item you received doesn't match the original product description, we have a dispute process to help you and your seller resolve the issue as amicably as possible. Where possible, you should always try contacting your seller before disputing a payment through PayPal but do bear in mind that you have 45 days from date of payment to open a dispute.
Here's how to open a dispute:
Log in to your PayPal account.
Click Resolution Centre.
Click Report a problem.
Click Report a problem.
Select I have a problem with an item I purchased, and then click Continue.
Click Find Transaction ID.
Click the Transaction ID next to the transaction you want to dispute, and then click Continue.
Select the reason for your dispute, and then click Continue.
Enter additional information on the Provide Additional Information page, and then click Continue.
After you've opened a dispute, you have 20 days to communicate with the seller. Disputes automatically close after 20 days. If you can't resolve the problem, you can ask us to investigate by escalating your dispute to a claim within the 20 days. We won't investigate disputes filed after 45 days, but we will take note of your problem.
To learn more about your rights through PayPal Purchase Protection, click Legal Agreements on any PayPal page, then click User Agreement for PayPal Services.
B. Why was my dispute closed?
When you open a dispute in the Resolution Centre, you must follow some specific guidelines. We automatically close or defer cases that don't follow these guidelines.
If you’re not satisfied, we encourage you to work directly with your seller to resolve the problem. (You’ll find their contact information on the Transaction Details page.) Most sellers welcome the opportunity to make their buyers happy.
Here are the most common reasons a dispute is automatically closed:
The dispute was filed over 45
You have to open a dispute within 45 days of the transaction date. You opened your dispute more than 45 days after the transaction date, so it was automatically closed.
The dispute was not escalated within 20 days
If you can’t resolve the problem with the seller, you have 20 days from the date you opened the dispute to escalate it to a claim. Your dispute was automatically closed because it wasn’t escalated within 20 days.
You already closed the dispute
According to our records, you resolved the problem and closed the dispute in the Resolution Centre. We don’t re-open cases that are canceled or closed.
The dispute was for an intangible or virtual item
We can only investigate transactions that involve items that can be shipped. Your dispute was closed because your item is virtual or intangible.
You filed the dispute through eBay
Since you have already opened a claim with eBay, your PayPal claim has been closed. Please continue to work with eBay to resolve this issue.
To learn more about how we investigate transaction problems, click Legal Agreements at the bottom of any PayPal page, then click User Agreement for PayPal Services.
C. What’s the status of my claim?
You can check the current status of your claim at any time by visiting the Resolution Centre.
To view the status of your transaction dispute:
Log in to your PayPal account.
Click Resolution Centre at the top of the page.
Select Open Cases in the drop-down on the Resolution Centre page.
Click the Case ID number under the Case column to view the status of the transaction in question.
If the dispute is escalated to a claim, PayPal seeks to resolve the claim within 30 days of the date the claim is filed, though such time frame can be extended, if appropriate, to accommodate the investigation.
If additional information is required, we will email you with the specific information we need along with the steps to provide us with that information.

Just a thought... could we reduced shipping costs by potentially bulking orders? one for each state
eg I work in the CBD in Melbourne so could have all the Melbourne lights sent as a group... ?
Then people could organize pickup?
Good job veew.... any installed pics of the V2 yet ?

V2 and GTi headlights look and should operate like OEM Highline headlights HOWEVER they DON'T have self-levelling or active cornering assist functions.
Just bear in mind that the lack of self-leveling and headlight washer features makes these headlights illegal in Australia, as they don't conform to Australian Design Rules (ADR 13). This may have implications for you in the event of an accident (both with respect to vehicle legality, and also insurance cover), and of course can cause visibility issues for oncoming drivers.

Headlights | Motoring | RACQ (http://www.racq.com.au/motoring/cars/car_advice/car_fact_sheets/headlights)
HID Headlights Legality (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2078477)
I'm not sure what to make of these two statements. They seem to be contradictory
"HID headlight conversions are not permitted under Qld legislation. However, it is not clear if other Australian states view the issue in the same way. If you operate in another state you should check requirements in your area.
Note also that Queensland's Dept. Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) advises that there is currently no legislation concerning HID conversion of driving lights."
Not permitted in first para but no legislation concerning conversions.
Ps wasn't there a workaround involving lower power bulbs that don't exceed a particular threshold?

From the Brazilian forums, it was 4300k, 5000k and 6000k.
What's the general consensus on the quality of the light? I understand 4300 or 5000 is generally better for light output but what about colour? It seems to vary enormously depending in which colour chart you look at. I've 5000k even look slightly yellow when I'm pretty sure its meant to be pure white. My guess is the photos of the light output seem to be 5000k?

There is no legislation for specifically for HID conversion but all modifications are subject to legislation and generally must not compromise ADR's

Retro-fitting High Intensity Gas-Discharge (HID) or Light Emitting Diode (LED) headlight assemblies to vehicles not
originally offered with the technology is generally not permissible as they do not comply with the ADRs because:
no headlight self-levelling device is fitted
no self-cleaning function is fitted
the design of the headlamp reflector is compatible with the bulb (the light is not focused correctly)."

I'm pretty sure the bulb temp for the lights I posted up is 5000k. I had 4300k on my motorbike for 4 years and that looked like midday sun at night (some shots below). I'm sure 5000k would be white with slight yellow.

100% in for GTi: VW golf MK7 GTI version headlight with 5000k bulbs
Just a thought... could we reduced shipping costs by potentially bulking orders? one for each state
eg I work in the CBD in Melbourne so could have all the Melbourne lights sent as a group... ?
Then people could organize pickup?
Good job veew.... any installed pics of the V2 yet ?
Shipping cost unchanged if you did it that way, its related to the box size rather than where it is shipped.
There are no pics of V2s that I have come across, I think we may be the first.

Just to clarify, the GTI version that I have ordered. Is this for non GTI cars wanting the red line going through the headlights? And it is still a plug and play system for my Tsi?
The GTi version is just like the V2 except it has the red stripe through it. All systems are plug and play.

Its one of those 0.00001% chance things, successfully proving that they were the cause of an accident would be stupidly hard. I see heaps of cars running around with aftermarket HIDs and on forums and have never heard of anything. I say they'd be fine, especially when they look almost identical to OEM HIDs, i doubt even police would notice.

Just to clarify, is the high beam on the V2s using just a regular H7 halogen bulb as well as the light produced from the xenon low beam?
The V2/GTi lights are bi-xenon. The H7 halogen is supplementary to the high beam xenons (an internal shutter is activated to produce a high beam light pattern).
If you refer to this video at 12 and 13 seconds, you'll see the cutoff on the side of the house and slightly to the right of the pot plant rise when the high beams are activated.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6H9qF72jsQ
The screenshots show the height of the high beam cutoff as the red horizontal line:

Hey guys, Mark contacted me today with regards to numbers as he was keen to get the GB going. After informing him we had 6 to 7 V2 orders and 5 GTi orders, he stated he was happy to go ahead however there would be a price rise.
He stated V2s would be $US429/set (therefore $US624/$AU665 with EMS shipping) and the GTi $US449/set (therefore $US644/$AU687 with EMS shipping).
I know the original prices were already pushing it for myself and 2 others, these new prices are too much for me. Let me know what your decisions are and I'll update Mark.

Just ask him what would he like more? The cash of the original price we discussed all 11-12 of us or him stuck with all the stock in his wearhouse??? Regardless of the outcome I will get these headlights.

19-07-2014, 12:43 AM
The original price was $620AUD including shipping, that's already over my limit so I have to draw the line somewhere. It's a shame because they're really nice looking lights, maybe we can just leave it for a while longer to try and get more people?
couchmotorist
19-07-2014, 12:56 AM
I can understand why it costs more with smaller numbers but the price rise seems pretty steep. I'd prefer a rise that's a bit more reasonable. They do seem like good units but now they're not not much less than the cost for a single set when I contacted WP lamps a month ago! Ultimately I'm still keen if we can work it out
Hi guys,
I've heard back from Mark, whose boss has agreed to readjust the price to $US399/set (for both the V2 and GTi) for an order of less than 20 units.
I am happy that this price is not too much more than the original price and therefore am happy to place an order.
Please indicate if you are happy to place an order (Version headlight, temperature of HID globe) with this updated price. I will let Mark know of the final numbers for the group buy by next Monday. We still need at least 10 sets of headlights.

Yeah I am happy with that! V2 with 5000k globes.
Group buy is made up as a separate thread, yes?
This is the GB thread, post#1 has the formal EOIs.
Also guys, if someone is able to take over the GB from here that would be great. This is taking up way too much time that I need to put towards my exams.
Essentially I'll forward you all my emails between Mark and myself if you needed to refer to any of the background discussions that has been distilled on this thread. You just need to copy the formal EOIs on post #1 and put it on one of the subsequent posts on this thread. Mark wants to get about 10 orders by next Monday but just contact him with what orders we end up with by Monday and he'll let you know if he is happy to proceed with the current deal if we have less than 10 units.
The reason why Mark wants this deal done by Monday is because next month is their business month which may delay our production/shipments.
Once the order has been confirmed, the organiser will ask those ordering to PM your details to them.
That person will fill in the order form (provided in the emails) which includes:
Name
Headlight version
HID temperature colour
Address
Contact number
This form will be sent to Mark. Everyone then sends the money to a specific Paypal Address, once all payment has been made then Mark will send the headlights and provide us with individual tracking numbers. We should receive the headlights in less than a month (it took the Brazilians almost 4 weeks, we're much closer to China than they are).
The person taking over from me will have my eternal gratitude. This GB has taken waaaay too much of my time and I really really need as much time as I can get for this exam.
Cheers guys.
Ok Couchmotorist (also a Radelaidian) has kindly offered to take over the GB. He will post soon the current EOIs and update that accordingly, he will also be contacting Mark with regards to the group buy numbers on Monday and will confirm if the deal is going ahead. Once it has been confirmed, he'll ask you to PM your details to him to tabulate the order form for Mark.
Cheers guys.

Hi everyone,
Thanks veew for all your hard work in setting up the group buy. As he mentioned earlier, I’ll push on with the GB from here given his other commitments.
Because I can’t edit veew’s posts I thought I’d reiterate where we are up to with numbers and details for the lights themselves.
Updated Pricing for GB numbers lower than 20 units:
$US399/set for V2 or GTI
P&H: You can choose from EMS $US195 (15-25 days) OR FedEx $US224 (3-5 days). Note: Fedex is quicker delivery (quoted 15-25 days vs 3-5 days) plus more comprehensive insurance
This would mean the headlights will cost $US619 ($AUD659) when shipped with EMS.
BUT there is also a Paypal fee, usually $US25 but Mark stated on payment we put $US619 (which means Paypal takes $US25, they get $US575).
Therefore the FINAL price of the headlights including P&H is $US619 ($AUD6539) VIA EMS, or $US648 ($AUD690) VIA FedEx.
2014 VW Golf MK7 HID Conversion Kit:
Temperature: Choice of 4300K, 5000K, 6000K
Bulb Type: D2H
Ballast Type: include round ballast/slim ballast

Turn light : Yellow (globe specs TBA)
Low light: Bixenon projector HIDs
High light: halogen projector kit (H7, same as OEM halogen setup)
Scope of delivery:

3. Flipper (GTI, 5000k, EMS)
4. KWS (GTI, 5000k, EMS)
5. DuesLucem (GTI, 6000k, FedEx)
Process of purchase:
As veew mentioned previously, I have to update Mark with numbers this coming Monday (21/7/14) in order to start the build before the end of the month. Next month is a busy one for production and our shipments might be delayed otherwise.
I will attempt to contact those who have previously expressed interested.
After Mark has agreed with the price for the numbers we have, I will need people to PM me with their details:
- Name
- Address
- Contact number
- Preferred postage method (FedEx vs EMS)
(I will attempt to clarify the actual price if people prefer FedEx)
Once Mark has these we will need to forward WP Lamps the money via PayPal before production starts (keeping in mind they would need to be in by around 25th or 26th July). He will then send each of us individual tracking numbers for postage.
NOTE: the paypal account we need to pay to is hua_chen2007@hotmail.com

Dear Andrew,
OK, thanks for what you have done!
And we think we can close it in next Monday, OK?
By the way, you all do by paypal, right? if do the paypal, need add the paypal fee of each payment for USD25.00. This is for paypal company, not for us. like if total value with shipment is USD600.00, Then we only received USD575.00, The paypal will take USD25.00.
If you don't want to pay this, you could do by western union, it will not take our money. hope you could understand.
Best Regards,
Mark
I think the actual price including Paypal fees is $US399 + $US195 + $US25 = $US619 ($AUD659) shipped via EMS.
I'm really sorry for the misunderstanding guys. I've asked Couchmotorist to chase it up with Mark but I don't think we'll be hearing from Mark until Monday. Just update what your thoughts are with the price and Couchmotorist will update the EOIs accordingly.

Ok just 3 people left to pay (well done everyone... that was quick!). One person has contacted me and should have things arranged within the next day or two, I'm yet to hear back from the other two for a while.....
I'll keep chasing people but there's only so much harassment I can do!
More info soon.

Update:
We have another addition! 12 in total now which gives us some breathing room in case someone doesn't make the deadline.
So far I have three promises for payment, but I haven't heard from Dux in a while! Will continue to chase but if I don't get a reply, Mark (WPLamps) may end up starting a run without them...
For the other three, if you could send through and let me know asap that would be great.

I've spoken to mark who has started production of the units (7 x V2 and 5 x GTI) and they should he ready to ship by this Fri/Sat or Mon (probably Monday because of the weekend).
So far with the payments:
All of the GTIs have paid, and 5 of the 7 V2s have paid. One person made an error in their PayPal request and should have it corrected in the next day or two after the refund has been put through. The other person I haven't heard from for days.... Time to name and shame!
Dux, we need to hear back from you ASAP. I've spoken to Mark and it seems he won't send ANY of the units until we've ALL paid.
There is one other person who was keen and has missed the deadline. I have all their details and they know how to pay. Given the looming deadline, Dux has until tomorrow night midnight (Thurs 24/7/14), otherwise this new person gets the spot (if they're happy to accept it).
I'm sure that there will be plenty of further group buys for these units once we get them in our hands and can comment on the quality and
how-to tutorials.
Basically we're darn close and I hope we can fix it all up for delivery by early next week!

Headlights are headlights and DRIVING lights are different as in What you stick on the front of a 4wd and can be HID FOR OFF ROAD USE.

The last person hasn’t gotten back to me so, as promised, I’ve messaged our late addition who is happy to go ahead with the order.
That means that by the end of today (25/7) or Monday (28/7) we should have confirmation that all the payments have been received and delivery will hopefully kick off not long afterwards!
I’ve contacted Mark who will confirm all the payments and delivery dates ASAP. After that we should all be sent tracking numbers, but I will ask to have a collated version on the order form in case people are having trouble.

Just got this from the manufacturer:
"And i am sorry to tell you that, The production depart. told me that the RHD model is no enough material to make (because this is the end of the month, we Purchase material every month 1st of the month), so i may delay to next month. so sorry about that.
*If you all worry about the payment, you all could frozen the payment of the paypal, then after we told you we have it, then you could release it, OK?"
I've told them we're not impressed, not least because they specifically rushed us to meet their "end of the month" production. I also mentioned they now have all of our money and we're dependent on them.
His reply:
"Sorry for the delay, we upset too. we push you to pay just want to do the earlier, but these days to many order, so not enough material. if pay one week early, then we could ship to you. Once we have the exactly shipment date by next week, we will let you know, thanks."
I'm trying to clarify what "may delay to next month" means in terms of a delivery date but I'll keep you all posted. I'd highly recommend we DON'T freeze the funds just yet, because if it's a matter of days then waiting for everyone to "unfreeze" might just cause further delays. These guys have been reliable in the past from other forums I've read so I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt at this stage.
One other thing Veew mentioned earlier is the issue of insurance. Those with PayPal should be fine but those with EMS only have 30 days from the time of order which may prove difficult if they don't ship for another week or two. If this is the case then EMS orders might need to start a PayPal dispute to cover themselves. Other option would be to upgrade to FedEx (more money I know...)
Sorry again guys this one came out of left field. Will keep everyone posted when I hear more early next week
Thought I would pop on here briefly, thanks Couchmotorist for keeping on top of everything!
Regarding insurance coverage in the post above, I'm pretty sure the EMS coverage is for the delivery itself and not 30 days from Paypal payment. I've outlined Paypal's coverage in Post #5, you can refer to the eligibility requirements in sections 7.1 & 7.2.
https://www.paypal.com/sg/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full#7
Section 7.5 refers to dispute resolution which MUST be opened within 45 days of payment.
This may be more relevant for Point_01, chibailah, Flipper and KWS as you've opted to ship with EMS.
Due to the issues in production and shipping, the items could still be en route sometime close to the cut off for a Paypal dispute. If this is the case, you may need to open up a Paypal dispute. If there are any issues with the items not arriving at all or if there are issues with the items themselves (damage during delivery or faulty items) then the dispute is already open for you.
I don't think upgrading to FedEx is necessary atm but is an option if you want the breathing room. I'm sure you can upgrade anytime up until a few days before they complete production.
Over the next 1-2 weeks we will definitely get a better idea on production completion and shipping dates. As always, Couchmotorist will keep you in the loop.

Hey Jamestc,
I've been one of the people helping to organize the group buy. Unfortunately our order has gone through but I'd suggest you get hold of mark from Winpower (email mark@wplamps.com) who I dealt with. In the last couple of days I've had a couple of enquiries forwarded to me so I assume there's enough people keen to get a second round going. When people start putting up reviews and installation guides I'm sure interest would pick up even further.
Have a chat to mark and ask him how to best go about it. I can forward you order sheets and instructions if required but the majority of the details are on the earlier posts of this thread, so it should be a matter of copying it across to a new thread

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but production has been pushed back until next week. No clarification on exact days despite our insistence.
This is becoming a bit of a joke.
Veew has kindly touched base again (still busy with other commitments at this stage) and we've sent a rather terse reply back:
"I'm sure I speak for both [both of us] but we rushed the Group Buy to beat this busy period. It should have been your responsibility to ensure there was enough material to actually proceed with production before the end of last month.
I don't think freezing Paypal payments is a satisfactory option but once my exams are completed next week, I will be thoroughly investigating what our options are. As [couchmotorist] mentioned earlier, we rushed this GB for you and therefore we would expect our orders to be treated as a priority...
...To be honest Mark, I'm starting to worry about this transaction. I would have thought this GB would be straight forward considering you've organised a number of group buys in the past.
I'm sure you can see that if this GB does not proceed in a satisfactory manner, many people who have been following my GB thread will see the final outcome, this will affect their confidence in placing orders with you in future.
I hope you will be able to work something out as I'm starting to feel that this may be a big Paypal scam. As I mentioned earlier in one of my emails, I've done all the research to give people confidence to order headlights from you. I'm sure the next 7-10 days will be a crucial time for you to demonstrate if we still have confidence in this transaction."
I think we've got the point across.
We have applied the pressure so I'd be happy to hear feedback. That way I can show Mark how displeased we are and push for some actual commitments.
Sorry, but once again I will keep everyone posted.

We've had a reply:
"I have just talked our boss about our situation and discuss for one hours, we are very disappointed that you think our honesty business as a "scam*", but you could check for any forum in the world, we have very good reputation in the world.
We understand you are just want to received the goods without any delay, but we also you can understand us, we are professional factory, we arrange the production with our company's plan (not me to arrange it). our company will see who is more urgent, then we will make for them. some of our customers already delay for one month.
And i think this week is our crucial time too, that's why we want you to choose DHL, it will faster 2-4days then FedEx, we have delay too long, don't want to delay one more day by the shipment. even one day earlier to reach you, still better for both of us, because *Waiting is the most painful!
*
*Even this is our busy season, but our boss promised me, next week we can surely send to you all. next week, your GB order will be a priority of our company!
Hope you could talk to the GB can trusted us and be patience for one more week, thanks."
They had mentioned earlier about using DHL instead of FedEx (for those who ordered shipping with them) and it seemed the cost wouldn't change. We are just clarifying this as we speak, as any extra costs would likely delay things further whilst we wait for people to decide on whether they would want to pay extra. My feeling is a delay for people's payments would likely outweigh any speed gained through faster shipping. We would also need to check if shipping insurance is as competitive.
If it costs the same and similar insurance, EVERYONE who ordered with FedEx could be changed to DHL; if it costs more, then I would leave things as they are.

So they'll SEND them NEXT week. Which means ETA is likely the following week ... not too bad. If DHL is quicker and no extra, may as well.

Hey Point, sorry I didn't realise you PM'd me about the headlight bulbs.
H7 high beam should be able to be replaced with other H7s. Indicator bulbs I'm not sure but it should be easy to take it out of the housing, take a picture and show it to a Repco sales rep.
The halogen cornering lights I would assume requires VCDS for comfortline as you wouldn't have fog lights for cornering lights. I would assume the highlines don't need coding but we'll find out in due time.

all good - I've already ordered a set of H7 Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited high beam bulbs, I've schooled myself on bulbs and headlight tech lately so shouldn't be too hard to suss out what indicators the Winpowers use and replace them with LEDs.
im even keener now that I know the Winpower headlights have a turning feature in even keener as I miss the static turning feature of my last car.

Hi guys,
Unfortunately Couchmotorist and I have been informed that the priority of our headlights enforced on them resulted in quality control issues.
Mark: I just came back from our production department and having a meeting, they blamed me a lot, because i push the workers to do make the goods, they could not make them carefully, so made a lot of trouble. we have made 100sets headlight, most of them has problem, some of them has dust inside, some of them wring not goods. the big problem is the projector len has scratch. see attachment.
So after the meeting, they decided all 100set headlight back to the production line and redo again. our company policy is that, if not pass the QC, could not sell out.
i was guilty with that, i should not push them too much. I made big trouble to the production line and waste a lot of time. :(
So the order will still delay. we hope we could ship out by next Monday. SORRY!
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/08/WPlampsScratchedheadlight_zpsd01cb6da-1.jpg (http://s1228.photobucket.com/user/trangandrew/media/Headlights/WPlampsScratchedheadlight_zpsd01cb6da.jpg.html)
I think my reply is very clear.
Hi Mark,
I must say I continue to be disappointed with how this transaction is progressing.
Please remember that the main reason we are in this position is because you did not check with the production team late last month that they had enough material to produce the RHD headlights.
If you had checked with them, you would have informed us that there was no need to rush the group buy. We would have happily waited until sufficient material was available before placing an order. So far we met your requests by obtaining at least 10 orders by the end of last month.
Unfortunately we paid you exactly 2 weeks ago (actually it was 3 weeks) expecting to have received the headlights by early next week atthe latest. At this rate, we really are not sure when we will receive the headlights. Your reassurances have done little to actually reassure us.
What I don't understand is how the projector lens scratch was not noticed before it was fitted (it is pretty obvious)? It is strange that the defect is only seen once the headlight has been fully assembled.
We do appreciate that you do quality checks and will not ship out headlights unless they are absolutely perfect, we do expect our headlights to be 100% perfect just like those received by the Brazilian buyers.
With these constant delays, it puts us in a difficult situation with the Paypal coverage period which covers us until early September. This coverage issue affects those who ordered with EMS as they would be likely to receive their headlights well past early September even if the headlights are shipped early next week (which I have my doubts).
As I mentioned before, if there is any chance the headlights do not come by early September, then the GB members are well within their consumer rights to open up a Paypal dispute (to ensure they have consumer protection with Paypal). This is clearly outlined in section 7.5: https://www.paypal.com/sg/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full#7
I would suggest that your company upgrades their shipping to DHL as an act of good will, otherwise you are highly likely to have a few Paypal disputes open until the headlights have been received and inspected to be in good order. I will be contacting Paypal and providing them with our email communications so they have a full understanding of our situation. I will inform you of their advice and options.
Once I hear from you and Paypal, I will inform the rest of the group buy members of the progress thus far. In the meantime, I would suggest that you and the production team continues to produce the headlights as carefully and efficiently as you can. It is better to measure twice or three times and only cut once.
Couchmotorist, I and all the group buy members both want this group buy to be successful, we hope that you and your company will facilitate this.
Kind regards,
I'm in the process of contacting Paypal with our options but their website has it outlined very well. I've posted up the Paypal Dispute process in post #6: http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f197/group-buy-aftermarket-bixenon-headlights-winpower-lamps-98267-post1069640.html#post1069640. You can refer to the finer details of Paypal Buyer protection in Post #5.
Regardless of the ongoing delays, I still think that these delays will be forgotten once we receive the headlights in good working order. There continue to be many happy owners who post up photos of their WPlamp headlights, I have yet to see a bad WPlamps' Mk7 headlight posted online.
I will be relying on Paypal Buyer protection to ensure I either receive the headlights (in satisfactory condition) or I will be getting my money back. After waiting this long, I'm not going to push for the headlights to be sent out ASAP as I just want them to make them to the high standard the Brazilians received. I will continue to push for those who ordered via EMS to have their shipping upgraded for free to DHL.
I would like all group buy participants to work out the exact date 45 days after they made their Paypal payment. Clearly mark this in your calendar to remind yourselves to open up a Paypal dispute prior to this date, UNLESS your headlights have been received and checked to be in good working order.
Considering I paid first on the 20th of July, I will be ensuring I open up a Paypal dispute on the 41st day (August 30th) and will post on the forum to remind others to do the same. If you do not open up a Paypal dispute within 45 days, you will not be protected and therefore may lose your money.
I understand many of you are absolutely f*cking pissed at how this group buy has progressed, don't worry I am as well. Rather than contact and abuse Mark further of his incompetence, it would be best to rely on Paypal to cover our transaction. This thread will be a very informative source for many potential future WPlamp customers, how Mark and his company deals with our GB will determine their future successes.
If any of the GB participants are particularly interested in receiving email transcripts between Couchmotorist, myself and Mark, please PM me your email address and I will send you what I have. All the important details are highlighted to allow you to follow the important details and dates more easily. These PDF'd email transcripts will be sent to Paypal in the meantime so they can clearly understand that Mark has clearly been at fault for the issues we're experiencing.
Alright, guys. Taking delivery of my new GTI tomorrow :)
Who wants to buy my WinPower lights? V2 with 5000k xenons. $710AUD pickup in Sydney or extra for posted!
Jazrod, if someone is keen to buy your headlights from them, I'm sure we can change the delivery address so they do not need to pay additional shipping. I'm sure this change in address can be made before the headlights have been produced and boxed up.

That's disappointing, but as you said I'd prefer to wait an extra week or two and receive the lights in good nick. I kinda feel sorry for Mark as he's being hit on both sides now. I'll open my dispute the same day as you do veew, at the rate we're going these lights are going to be great Christmas presents to ourselves

I will ask PayPal for my refund on 17/08/14 0:01 as they have promised to send the headlights either yesterday or today plus a few more times before...
Oh and guys, if you are looking at pulling out and looking at other potential companies, do you mind looking into if they produce for RHD?
So far I haven't had a reply from 32degrees about whether they do or don't but so far there are no buyers who have bought from them and documented their experience. I know other companies who advertise on Alibaba don't do RHD lights. I'm not sure of Becautoparts but they mainly supply the North American market so it is unlikely to do low volume stuff for RHD but I haven't asked them specifically. Maybe you could chase this up Michael?
I'm going to hang in on WPlamps until I have my headlights or Paypal resolution (ie. refund). For the others who, rightfully, choose to open a Paypal dispute earlier, it would be good to know who else we can order from if everything falls through. But as Couchmotorist mentioned earlier, and from my original research, WPlamps were the only company who were happy to do a small production run specifically for RHD headlights.
...at the rate we're going these lights are going to be great Christmas presents to ourselves
Mate, lets hope we're pleasantly surprised soon.

Yeah that's a good idea. I've had two blokes enquire but neither have the funds at this time ... if I pull out do I get my money back?
If anyone is still interested before they're shipped it's $710, as I paid all of the shipping already.
Proof of GTI purchase lol

You can't pull out via Paypal unless you didn't receive the item or the item was not as described. If you have someone willing to take your spot, we'll just change the delivery address but any claims will still need to go through your Paypal account unfortunately. Contact Mark to find out what your options are but don't act on it unless you run it by me. The Paypal protection criteria is quite specific and I wouldn't want anyone being caught short due to misinformation from WPlamps.

I'd rather wait than receive sub standard headlights - it's not as if the headlights we currently have don't work. A free upgrade in shipping would be great though haha! I'll open up a dispute on the same day as you Veew but from all I've researched - the WP lights seem to be the most tried and tested non-OEM xenons.
out of interest, anyone know how hard and expensive an OEM Xenon retrofit is?

$2600 for the pair 5G1941753A & 5G1941754A is the part numbers, this is the VW factory part that you can just go in to buy but they(dealership) WILL NOT de-code it for you as VW Germany is really anal about it apparently.
The installation of full OEM with washers and self-levelling is probably not worth it, will easily run you past 3k in parts and will take a fair amount of time (and money) to install. There are a few Mk6 installation guides which detail this, I would expect it to be very similar for Mk7 Golfs.
This is what you'd be looking at:

Headlights apparently ready to ship today. I assume you'll keep your order today Michael Mui? Anyone keen to buy Jazrod's headlights? If so pay him ASAP so we can change the shipping address. Otherwise if he gets it there will be the associated P&H costs.
I think we'll just go ahead so the deliveries can occur today. I've emphasized to mark that the headlights need to be perfect and we would rather wait a few more days to be sure.
Ok, just confirmed headlights had not gone through to QC. I've emphasized we are willing to wait a few more days to ensure the headlights are perfect. It seems shipping may not be upgraded for those on EMS, dw I will continue to push for this but ultimately we have Paypal to cover us in the event the headlights are not received by late August.

He said QC would delay by a day so potentially tomorrow afternoon. He'll update me "before noon" tomorrow. I re-emphasized that we want to ensure perfect headlights are delivered therefore a few more days with QC is acceptable.
Headlights passed QC. Shipping should occur later today, we should get tracking numbers over the next few days!
Unfortunately those who optioned with EMS delivery were not upgraded, check your PM (if not done already) and I'll contact you soon.

Damn they look nice, super keen to get mine!
Anyone else notice that the chrome strip in the headlights doesnt line up with the chrome stip in the grill (it's approx an inch higher) - i'm going to try and track down an grill to suit an OEM model with xenons - possible GB?
It's because it's the "R" headlights. I initially thought it was a replica design issue from the factory but now realise it would probably match the R grille perfectly. The brazilians are ordering alternate grills from WPlamps but I think it's not worth the bother. Shipping would make it too expensive for what it's worth.
Solvalou had this to say (Page 13: Entrar - forum.VWGolfClub.com (http://www.vwgolfclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43756&page=13))
I have put the V1 with exclusive grille was. Is aligned but it is not cool because the chrome headlight is not correct. The replica was not perfect ... It's hard to explain but I'll try.Imagine being a chrome line that starts on the outside of the lighthouse and goes to the center going against the grid. In the original OEM she begins almost flat (low slope) and will be spinning on its axis becoming more inclined to get on well inclined grid. The chrome grill perfect also follows the same slope.
Already in V1 the chrome line starts the same line of original OEM headlight. The whole problem is that the replica will not rotating shaft and getting steeper when it arrives in the grid. Ai is very strange because the slope of the chrome grille is different from the slope of the headlight chrome. keeps it aligned, which is just weird. I wish someone who has the V2 could knock a front photo for me to see if they got it. If yes, I will order the V2 and sell my V1.
Looks like the alignment is perfect. Only bad is that the chrome has different slant making the grid seem louder than the lighthouse.
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/08/2jbv91y-1.jpg
I took a photo and zoom in marked the tops of chrome with lines. The bottom part of the chromed not put the line because they are aligned just right. The problem is the top. A red line is the top of the chrome grill. The green line is the top of the chrome headlight.
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/08/11m8do4-1.jpg
Now I snapped this photo of a original exclusive. Look how the lines are well aligned.
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/08/4qjvyu-1.jpg
As per Becautoparts on Review of Ed's MK7 Headlight replicas - Page 3 - GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum (http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4889&page=3)
The Golf R front grille has a thicker chrome piece which aligns with the headlights. On a regular Golf grille, the stripe is much thinner so it looks like it does not line up.

VCDS will be required to enable the DRLs to remain on (at varying levels of brightness) while the low beam headlights are on.

Do you guys think I should use sikaflex to hold the clip or send it back to winpower?
Damn man, if you fix it then you lose the "warranty" of being able to send it back for a replacement. Considering you have a few issues with our headlights (but even if it is just one), I would request for Mark to replace that headlight as I would classify this issue as significantly not a described (SNAD - Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/sg/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full#7). I have all email communications for the whole group buy and it is extremely clear (around the time of QC and production issues) that we insisted on waiting a few extra days to ensure the headlights were sent out without issues, especially one as obvious as the headlight scratch.
I'd recommend everyone else having a good look at their headlights, taking plenty of photos and testing them like Tomatoes did even if they don't have time to install the lights. Post it on the thread and contact Mark, keep your email communications as you should provide this to Paypal as they can refer to this as part of the mediation process. Also if you do open up a Paypal dispute, ask me for email communications between Couchmotorist, Mark and I as it will provide all the information for Paypal.

Alright, so I've just spent a good 4 hours installing the lights. The instructions here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6m5ejpt0zjthi3t/AABTRc981NjpgXKTje8OKBVia
are all that you need, although I skipped step 4 as it wasn't necessary. Also you should try to get another person to help, as it was quite hard removing the headlights without another hand pulling the bumper. Also, you need a good set of tools, including a ratchet/socket wrench, and obviously a torx screwdriver set, which was necessary for removing the screws under the bumper. I didn't have time to do a DIY guide, but here's a before/after
1144611447
I noticed that when I plugged in the headlights one projector globe wasn't working. On further inspection I opened up the back where the leads from the ballast go in (just remove the 5 screws, it's easy) the red and black leads were disconnected from the connector. Putting those in fixed it. Although I still have to do some coding.
11448
A few words on the build quality. The lights are very solidly built, it feels similar to the stock OEM headlights. However, the clips (as in Michael's earlier post) are prone to come off, so make sure you secure them somehow when installing your xenon headlights otherwise they may drop to the bottom of the car and be very hard to get.
Any questions, feel free to ask. Good luck!

Make sure you put automotive tape(painter's tape) on the corners of your front fenders and the front bumper(circled bit) as you will more than lightly bump into them during install. Also don't take the plastic sheets off your headlights until its been hold in place by two screws as this will protect you new lights a little bit more.

Im not sure what happening with mine at the moment. The tracking says they have been delivered.... in "City of Guangzhou". Perhaps they sent them to themselves lol
How hard is the install? I got a quote a VolksMuller in Annangrove for approx $260 to install, im kinda tempted to get them to do it as i dont have to tools etc to do it nor the know how.
Up to you but the installation seems easy as long as you borrow the right tools (that's what I'm doing) and you find someone to give you a hand.

I'll do it for $250 ;) jks
I'm installing them with my brother on Sunday, if you need a hand I can come help you out as I'm in the hills district as well. I'll ask my brother if I can borrow his tools when I see him. The only problem is I work 6 days and I do weird hours at work (mostly afternoons and evenings)

I found 2 parts at the bottom of the box on one of the headlights but they were easily re-attached. Nothing seems to be broken.
Closer inspection of the inside of the headlights shows a bit of dust and light marks.
In front of the one of the lights, the honeycomb pattern is broken from what appears to be impact damage. Very minute but I did notice it.
Hoping to install it this weekend. Anyone want to help and has a cable?

Mark stated there was heavy rain/higher humidity levels at the time of production which may explain why there is that much condensation, he suggested putting desiccant in the headlights to help absorb the moisture. See how you go and let us know if it improves the condensation.

Just an update on my install GTI
Mechanically the new units went in, after some time.
I have not done any coding (if I can get the things to work, I might consider it)
When the car light switch is in low-beam (HID) only mode;
Both HID lamps on both sides are lit.
The passenger side front DRL is partially lit (this is NOT reflected light from any source), see attached *.jpg file.
After a few minutes the passenger side HID flickers and goes out. The drivers side HID remains lit. At the same time, all DRLs become lit (drivers and passengers sides). The HID on the passengers side will not turn on, see attached *.jpg files.
Im talking to Mark at Winpower, trying to work out whats wrong.
Mark believes it is a coding issue. I don't think so.
Ive commenced a Paypal dispute, my only protection. :11583
Some other pics, ...won't load!
Winpower have advised that they want me to do the coding (that I haven't done WTF?) before they will consider a ballast/controller solution.
Does anybody have a VCD who can help me in the Parramatta area asap ? Please PM me.
Thanks.

KWS, the problem sounds similar to mine that I had earlier. See if you can get to the back of your headlights and open up where the ballast leads go in, and check the connectors in there, one of them might be disconnected (pics in my post #169)
Yeah, I've already pulled the thing out totally, disconnected every wire/connector and reconnected. Even took the HID bulb out to check the wiring on the end of it. Still the same problem.
I'm hoping somebody with a cable can help, even if it's only to prove the coding is not the issue.
How can coding be a problem if it's never been touched, or am I lucky enough to have my own special code assigned by VWA.
I don't think so!
Well this is retarded. I tried to do the installation of the headlights but got stuck after removing the M10 bolts from underneath the bumper. The bumper wouldn't swing out like it would in the photos and after a fair amount of fiddling, cussing and praying I don't break the bumper, I gave up and rescrewed everything back on.
I temporarily connected my headlights up last night and they seem to be operating satisfactorily so I'm happy with that. I just need to find someone willing to fit these headlights for a decent price.

Those of you that have had your lights coded - do your DRLs dim when the main beam is on? Mine don't and they're super bright at night to the point that they could attract police attention as DRLs must dim when main beams are on?
Code it as per the video I linked on the first page. That shows how different values affect the DRL brightness

I'm going to have another go installing these headlights on Sunday as Mark is pulling something dodgy with KWS and therefore I want to know if I have to open up a Paypal dispute within 45 days of payment.
My installation questions are:
1) Regarding step 1: The last time I removed all the screws on the black grill (top and front facing), I wasn't able to lift it adequately to loosen the front grill and remove it from the bumper. What did you guys do?
2) Regarding step 2: Once you remove the M10 "nuts" from underneath the side bumper, do you have to pull the sides of the bumper down before pulling it out to the sides? I wasn't able to get it to swing out to the side and thats as far as I got before bailing on the installation.
3) Regarding step 3: There were only 2 Torx screws for that metal bracket that holds the headlights in place, the PDF file states there are 3 screws. How many screws did you guys encounter?
Also for the group buy participants, if there are any issues with your headlights, please post it up on the forum as it gives me an idea of the quality of the headlights received and also for future potential purchasers. I would like to remind you that you only have 4-6 days left to open up a Paypal dispute if you have any issues with the headlights that require Mark to address. I paid on the 20th of July so today is 40 days following payment.
An issue that is in progress b/w Mark and KWS is KWS is asking Mark to send another ballast. The VCDS coding suggested by Mark did not address the issues experienced. Mark contacted KWS via Paypal (a dispute is currently open) stating he would send the ballast. Mark, however, emailed KWS outside of Paypal stating he would only send the ballast if KWS closed the Paypal dispute.
In this situation if KWS closes the dispute, he CANNOT reopen it and therefore will not have any protection from Paypal.
In light of the dodgy behaviour exhibited by Mark, I would like to remind you your Paypal Buyer Protection is the only thing that will ensure Mark does the right thing. Use the Paypal dispute if you have an issue that needs to be resolved, if it is then you can close the dispute. The dispute and claim process provides up to 50 days for you and Mark to resolve the issue.
Refer to the first page of this thread (http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f197/group-buy-aftermarket-bixenon-headlights-winpower-lamps-98267.html#post1069640) for all the Paypal Protection policies and fine print.

hey veew, so I've coded and installed mine and they are in perfect working order, no complaints from me. Re. your questions:
1: So once you remove the two screws left and right from the grille, you just need some extra pressure - since the grille is attached down into the bumper and back perpendicular to it, you need to pull it in two ways.
2) Once you remove the 6 screws from underneath the wheel well/bumper cover, you need to unsnap the bumper, it's just attached via plastic clips. It needs quite a lot of force, but it's pretty sturdy, don't worry about breaking it. Once you unsnap the bumper, you'll need another hand to pull it while you take out the headlights - that was the most tricky part of the process.
3) There's three - two on the metal bracket, and one deep down near the bottom of the headlight, you'll need to look carefully - maybe use a torch.
Well I've finally installed my headlights. I had a few issues along the way but they're finally in now.
The major issue is the left headlight doesn't adjust high enough, I've definitely got the adjuster at the rear of the headlight clicked to its limit and the interior adjustors are also at their highest setting. The distance to the garage door is only about 3 to 4 metres so the left headlight would be useless in normal driving conditions.
The duct tape on my garage door indicate my OEM halogen cutoff height when the interior adjustor is set at the half way mark (1.5). There still is significantly more adjustment up and down that could be made with the adjustors on the back of the OEM headlight.
I am annoyed this issue wasn't seen as part of WPlamps QC process, it is a very simple thing to check.

Videos of the problem:
WPlamps Golf 7 faulty headlight adjustor - YouTube (http://youtu.be/SaiD8UwFZcg)
WPlamps Golf 7 headlight adjustor problem - YouTube (http://youtu.be/mx4g9l7beU4)
The other minor issues that I could live with include dust and lint inside the headlight (pointed to by the red lines), damage to the hexagonal plastic just like DeusLucern's headlight and broken connectors requiring the OEM ones to be used instead.
Fit and finish once installed is otherwise satisfactory. The dust and lint on the inside of the headlight lens doesn't bother me too much as it doesn't affect the headlight projection itself but the left beam is useless as it only illuminates about 10 metres of ground ahead of the vehicle.

Well I've just finished going for a night drive. The left headlight is absolutely useless, illuminates only 5 metres ahead of the vehicle. The right headlight at the maximum height is not high enough. Around town the right headlight beam is passable only because there are plenty of street lights around but when there aren't (as you'll see in the 2nd video), the light beam is inadequate in distance and power.

I installed mine today, when I first installed them the right headlight was way too low but after lots of adjustment I think they're all good now. Sorry to hear about you guys having problems
Well I contacted Mark Sunday night about my issues, he said that the reason why the left headlight was limited in upward adjustment was because the left/right adjustments were at their maximal. Well, after much adjustment with the left headlights (both with the lights on and off the car) there was almost no difference in beam height. The right headlights adjusted much better. With the internal headlight beam adjuster set to the highest, it was able to go higher than I needed when adjusted to its highest setting using the rear headlight adjuster (useful for driving on dark, empty country roads with infrequent oncoming traffic without necessitating the use of high beams).
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/09/IMG_5696_zps10ec0bc1-1.jpg (http://s1228.photobucket.com/user/trangandrew/media/Headlights/IMG_5696_zps10ec0bc1.jpg.html)
A drive around town demonstrated an improvement compared to before. As the source of illumination was solely from the right headlight (the left headlight just pointed to the ground or at the left rear tyres of cars in front) there wasn't the power you would expect of xenons. If only the left headlight was able to be aimed up at the same level there would be additive lighting power where the beams crossed over.

Driving in the hills again demonstrated an improvement but was disappointing in illuminating the left roadside (useful to see wildlife or mobile speed cameras around town?). As the WPlamps xenon beam cutoffs taper downwards the further away from the beam, it doesn't illuminate corners as well as my motorbike used to (which had $120 projector bixenon headlights) just before entering corners.

I've had a good look inside the low beam housing to make sure that turning the adjustors was actually doing something. The yellow plastic part in the bottom left adjusts the headlight height.

As the adjustors chew up easily, as seen by the left/right adjustor on the left headlight, I could only adjust them with the headlights off the car.

Overall I'm just frustrated with the whole process with these headlights. They're not up to scratch, shouldn't have passed their QC as they are and as a result I've wasted a sh*tload of time on these headlights. I'll see what Mark will offer but I'm not sure what I'm going to do just yet.
I spent all yesterday afternoon and night trying to reset the headlights multiple times. I tried to reinsert the adjustor fully extended and fully shortened and tested to see what the headlight level was like and how much it could be adjusted. Unfortunately it wasn't able to be adjusted any different despite having the right/left adjuster in the middle of its range.
This is the video Mark sent me to reset the adjuster: Golf 7 Wplamps V2 - resetting the headlight adjuster - YouTube (http://youtu.be/1JoNqJ8ha0w)
I saw Leovasquez have the opposite problem to me where one beam was too high.

His problem was the headlight adjustor was not clicked into the white piece as shown in the photos. After he clicked it in it was in the right adjustment range. The problem with my headlights was there was not enough range with the adjustor to push the bottom of the headlight to aim the beam high enough. I ended up leaving the yellow adjustor not clicked into the white plastic, I tied shoe lace string (I tried sewing thread but that broke) around the white part and the yellow adjustor ball so they stay together when I adjust the yellow adjuster up and down. This has resulted in the left beam higher than before and is within acceptable normal limits.

This is a short video showing part of how I went about doing the ghetto modification, it wasn't easy but was made slightly easier with decent gloves and mosquito tweezers and needle tip clamps. The video starts after I had already made my initial loop around the white plastic part.

Despite finally reaching a satisfactory light beam output and height, I'm very unhappy with how these headlights were sent. Without the modification the left headlights would still be pointing down at the road only 4 metres in front of the car.
This is a fault with the headlights and it should have been picked up in QC.
I spent considerable time researching and making sure I would end up with a good product that didn't require me to spend days fixing and installing the headlights! The problem with this whole group buy was Mark rushed us into completing the group buy, with a reduced minimum number of units before August, promising they would be made before their busy production period in August. Mark failed to check with production that they had enough material to fulfil the promise of producing the headlights and shipping them out 4 days after payment. There were multiple delays, the rush in production causing quality control issues resulting in further delays, these headlights came so late in the Paypal Buyer Protection period. Today is the last day for me to open a Paypal dispute which is why I had to make sure these headlights reached a level I could use. The option of returning the headlights would come at a considerable cost to me and therefore is a last resort.
I'm currently seeing if Mark will compensate me for the substandard headlights, the amount of time I've put into the group buy and the business I've brought him. We'll see what he says, for me this was a lesson learnt. No amount of preparation with Chinese manufacturers such as WPlamps will minimise the amount of sh*t that will hit the fan.
Edit: I opened up a Paypal dispute, will see how this goes.

OK...so after seeing a few people with issues, I decided to check out my own headlights. I managed to get the grill off, but then I got stuck with trying to remove the second screw holding the bumper in place (the one closer to the front) - I just couldn't find it.
And it could be just me but the plastic cover shown in Page 3 doesn't look like mine. Mine looks like 2 pieces and the bottom part seems very firmly fixed. Anyway, I didn't investigate too much further because it started raining so I quickly put everything back together =(
However, I would like to test that at least the lights work, does anyone have any pics or instructions on what connectors I need to use to test the lights?
And given the crappy weather in Sydney right now, I am very tempted to pay someone to install and code them at this stage.

Yeah mate, all the cables from the light plug into the ballast cables and then the cable from the car headlight plugs into the back of the ballast. Just sit your new headlights on top of the old ones, they're pretty easy to test out

I know this might seem dumb but if I plug in all the cables from the headlight into the ballast, there are no cables left. I've only got 3 cables and the headlight has 3 cables. Did I get a dodgy ballast?
11755
And which cable should I pull from the existing headlight?

DeusLucem, see the front page of this thread, theres a picture with red circles on how to connect the ballast to the headlight.

Pull the cable with red circle out, and put it into to your new headlight. Theres a slot that you can see if you look carefully on the inside of the WPlamp headlight
edit: michael beat me to it. lol
Hey Deus, after my first attempt to do the install, I came across this video, it is an awesome walkthrough of how to do the headlights! Shows you how much force the car will actually take (a lot more than you expect)

Ok...so I've tested the lights and unfortunately I will have to open a PayPal dispute as the Left Hand HID is not working. Interestingly though, the LED DRL stays on when the HID turns on.
Left HID bulb - won't turn on.

Everything else works, Indicator, High Beam, DRL.

Right hand side is fine (but does anyone know what the middle bulb is for? It's not even connected).

Hi Tomatoes,
I did see your post and it was the first thing I checked. I even tried switching ballasts...no change. I am currently in communication with Mark from WinPower. Hopefully it's a simple (and quick) swap.

Well after a false start my lights finally arrived so I plugged them in to try them out and there's a problem with the DRL's. When you turn on the headlight 1 DRL on the RHS stays on at about 1/2 brightness and 1 on the LHS flickers on and off so right now they are unusable. The easiest way to see the problem is when the indicator is on the DRL on that side should go out but from the pics you can see they don't. I'l email Mark now and see what he has to say.

So far that means 50% of the headlights sent out have issues with them. I'm sure anyone following our group buy progress wont be keen on getting a set from WPlamps. Despite insisting multiple times we were happy to wait a few more days to ensure the headlights were perfect...what a cock up.

Lol yep. My left projector has sagged significantly lower than the right so I think I'll open up a PayPal dispute too - I'm also going to look into OEM xenon retrofits, I can't stand halogens.
Guys, it seems that the Paypal disputes lodged on the 45th day post payment is automatically escalated to a claim. On lodging a Paypal dispute, you don't have 30 days where it can be escalated to a claim but a dispute can be escalated by the 45th day post payment. Therefore if you try and put up a dispute and it goes straight to a claim then you've done it on the 45th day. Lodge the claim and hopefully Mark will resolve the issue in less than 20 days.
I was offered a Paypal refund but that requires me sending the headlights back. In my claim I requested Mark to compensate me $US200, which I hope will be fulfilled, as I would lose more money paying for shipping to return the headlights. I've called Paypal a few times so far and yesterday they gave me an email address, to send in extra information, so they can take that into consideration before making a final decision with regards to my claim.
When contacting Mark, Cc me into the emails as I'll build up a collection of correspondences. Once I've delete all our personal details from the correspondences I will upload these so that future buyers interested in WPlamps will see what kind of transaction they can expect in future. Let me know if you don't want me putting up your correspondences.
Also guys, Mark has requested some of the forum members to close the Paypal disputes before he will send out replacement ballasts. I would like to reinforce that if you close a dispute, it cannot be reopened. Only close a dispute when your problem has been resolved.

A recent email (below) from Mark states his boss is very unhappy with how we're dealing with our group buy and how many of us opened Paypal disputes. His boss will not consider making/selling headlights to Australia anymore and will only accept payment by Western Union/bank transfer. This means that future buyers will have no consumer protection from this company who has, so far, shown absolute disregard to the quality of the products made and shipped to buyers.
Dear "DeusLucem",
Please exchange the ballast for left light ballast to right light ballast, right light ballast to left light ballast, and see what happen.
PS: Look, you should talk to us first before you open the dispute. So you through we would not help you if you don’t open the dispute? Because of you and other guys who keep open the dispute again and again, Seriously affect the reputation of our company. Our boss is angry. He said will stop to selling to Australia anymore! We are given up the Australia Market. Because the reputation is the most important to us. We have very goods reputations in the world; we don’t to loss it because of the Australia. You are not trusted!
Dear "Veew"/"Couchmotorist",
We are very grateful for you what you have done for the first group buy. Thank you very much, and also apology for not let you all understand our product before ordering. And please do not creating the second group buy. We are not accepted. We only accept western union and by bank, if they trust us, then they can order, if not, then that’s ok, thanks.
But if other guys still have any problem, just let me know, we will still help them, thanks.

We have been emailing Mark first with our issues but are forced to open up Paypal disputes 45 days post payment. If he hadn't misled us and delayed shipping (multiple times) the headlights for at least 3 weeks, we would've had more time to resolve the problem before being forced to open up Paypal disputes.
What does he mean by "apology for not understanding our product before ordering"? What is there to understand, the headlights either work or they don't. They're not children who develop based on nature and nurture, they are Plug and Play (as advertised) or they aren't! A common reply to our issues is to try VCDS coding, unfortunately VCDS coding will not remedy problems with manufacturing of the headlight or ballasts.
If Mark and WPlamps had actually taken a few extra days to produce the headlights and ensure they were in perfect order, no one would have received substandard headlights and therefore no Paypal disputes would have been opened. Their tarnished reputation was their own doing.
Where do we go from here?
For those who have issues with your headlights, request for an email address from Paypal (go to Contact in the Paypal page and get a one time code, call the number and explain your issue) so you can send the appropriate evidence (PDF'd email communications between you and Mark, the forum thread links). I have the other PDF files I can email you from before the items were sent. Include links to the forum thread as well so they can go through the evidence and try to get what you want.
For most of you, it may be partial compensation rather than receiving a refund (which involves sending the headlights back at your own, likely to be considerable, cost!). I would suggest you post your issues (including plenty of pictures/video) in detail on this thread so Paypal, as well as other future buyers, can follow it.
I think I have most of your emails but just PM me your email address if I haven't already received it already, I will email you my PDF files.
Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.
