Door Issues

Afternoon all,

I have two door related issues, the first issue I thought I'd get opinion from here before going ahead with what I think is the fix.

Problem 1: drivers door - puddle & map lights do not turn on with door open, I get no error on the display with the door open while driving (I get a chime and door open symbol on cluster display with passenger doors). A bit of research has found that it may be cracked solder joints in the door lock module, courtesy of VWVortex (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1542461-MKIV-door-locks-explained-why-you-re-having-problems!!!-(). But this mentions:
Since so many people with '99.5-'01 MKIV cars seem to be having trouble with their door locks not working properly...

Is this going to be the same problem with my 2002 Bora? I will have to buy a soldering iron etc. and do this, are there any differences with disassembling the door & lock module with the US instructions in that thread?

Problem 2: the drivers side rear passenger door doesn't lock and unlock with central locking, sometimes the door pin can be grabbed and pulled up to unlock the door, but 99% of the time it remains locked. A bit of Googling didn't help - what is likely to be the culprit with this one?

Problem 1: Your guess sounds right.
Same process as the US? Yep, but our part numbers will be different to theirs.

Problem 2: Do you hear the motor? Could also be something binding or in need of lubricant. The rear latch is about $160 from ECS. My rear one is broken at the moment and it looks like a huge pain in the bum to swap over.
