I was shopping at Autobarn yesterday & noticed Castrol have finally started marketing the oil I need in 5 litre containers.
It's called FST [Fluid Strength Technology] & meets VW 504 00 & also 507 00. "Fulfils the requirements of former 503 01"
It is priced @ $75 for 5 litres but with the 20% sale this weekend worked out @ $60. The last time I purchased Castrol 507 00 oil I had to buy 20 litres. It cost $385 & that was supposed to be trade.
In around '07 or thereabouts I purchased Castrol 507 00[longlife 111] for from memory for $66 from VW just before they changed over to VW branded oil. At the time it was a good deal so I bought 2 containers. After I had used them, I regretted not buying more, so now I can stay with Castrol for a reasonable price.

Great find. :)
Just bear in mind that the engine oil has an used by date. The Mobil1 ESP states 5 years.

Repco might have this oil at $49.99 in their current catalog but it's hard to tell because the most important part of the label is obscured. Worth checking, though.
Compare the image below to the UK Castrol Edge page (http://castroledge.com/uk/oil-range/5w-30). The Australian site hasn't caught up with this product yet :P

Hi All,

I have just popped into the local Repco store and on the back it states VW 504.00/507.00 without APPROVED. It does appear to be the same oil as that on the Castrol.com.au oil selector.

I will try to upload the photo later after work.

In addition to the Passat 125TDI, I have a 2009 Mitsubishi EvoX and a 2006 Mazda MX5. All of which specify a 5W30 synthetic oil.

As I would like to keep only one type of oil to prevent any misfilling, can I assume that a 504/507 blend is suitable for all cars??

Thanks
