Hi I am new to the forum. My 2011 Golf 77 TSI is soon end of warranty. Over the past 2 years and 10 months ownership my car has experience chain belt issues and water pump issues at around 40000KM. One of the dealer Mechanic told me this is a common issues on golf as I also found a lot in this forum. They have my car for 2 weeks to do the repair under warranty claim. They advise if without warranty the repair cost will be $5000. The car was driving on highway most of the time and they advise if this issue not resolve can damage the engine and cause a new engine replacement. My car is now 60000km and still running ok.

Since the issues above I have concern of my car MK6 reliability as this is my first VW. I hope someone in this forum can advise me their experience. Should I expect others issues arise after the 3 years warranty period?

Is MK 7 more reliable compare to MK6 as I saw they build on different platform?

Too early to say for certain, but I think VW should have made some improvements in reliability in the Mk7, given that the Mk6 has cost them in reputation and repair (warranty) bills.

Well the Mk7 90TSI and 103TSI won't have cam chain issues as they have completely new design engines with cam belt drive. They only share bore centres with the Mk6 engine.
