Sport Fuel Brake Foot Rest Dead Accelat Pedal AT SET FOR Volkswagen VW Golf MK7 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sport-Fuel-Brake-Foot-Rest-Dead-Accelat-Pedal-AT-Set-For-Volkswagen-VW-Golf-MK7-/301126301692?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AGolf&hash=item461c86b7fc&_uhb=1)

Just came across these on eBay, they look very similar to the real deal. Wondering if anyone has seen these or already bought them?

I had the impression the alloy pedals went on top of the existing ones but from the diagrams it appears you need to remove the pre-existing pedals and install these ones.

These ones won't work as these are for LHD.

You'll need to search for RHD pedals which are harder to find.

Just an update. I ended up buying a set of pedals from the link above. I won the listing for just under $65 including P&H so was stoked at the price but also wary of the quality of the product I might end up receiving.

I received the item after about 10 days and am very glad to be surprised by the quality of the pedals!

The footrest had some minor blemishes, this doesn't bother me as you can't see them unless you like operating the pedals with your forehead.

Fitment of the brake and accelerator pedals were perfect. I decided to muck around to see how the foot rest could be used, as these sets are for LHD vehicles.
The foot rest has plenty of tabs on the side and rear, I used some trusty kitchen scissors (as I didn't really have any proper tools at home) to trim the tabs off

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/04/Pedals19_zpse327dc52-1.jpg (http://s1228.photobucket.com/user/trangandrew/media/Pedals/Pedals-19_zpse327dc52.jpg.html)

Using blue tack I tested out different placements and found the middle of the foot rest the best place (felt the most solid and easy removal of floor mats for cleaning). The photo from the seat cushion showing the foot rest looks out of place in all of the positions I tried (top, middle, bottom - I couldn't post more than 20 pics in this post so only left in the middle position). I think they look OEM when you're standing at the driver's door looking into the footwell.

I cut out cardboard pieces to ensure a flatter surface at the rear to attach double sided tape.

I'll update how the footrest goes over time but at the moment I'm extremely happy with this pedal set! Overall I'd definitely recommend this eBay seller for such great pedals at an awesome price!

Yeah I saw that a while back, it doesn't match the pedals as well but I'll see how this current setup goes. Drove with it today and peering between the steering wheel spokes it looks great, feels solid under the feet too so it has been good so far.

The brake and accelerator pedals are the same for LHD and RHD. The footrest is only available for LHD vehicles.

I think GeekZao is referring to these: Volkswagen VW MK7 Golf Sports Pedals Manual 5G2064200 Genuine Accessory NEW | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Volkswagen-VW-MK7-Golf-Sports-Pedals-Manual-5G2064200-Genuine-Accessory-New-/161128692825?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item258404bc59&_uhb=1)

The automatic set would only include the brake and accelerator pedals.

Anybody have any experience in fitting auxiliary driving lights? to Mk 7

I came across a few threads, particularly in the UK forums, on fitting various driving lights - both halogen and more modern looking LED strip units. Might be worth checking on there for more detail information.

My small order from CCP arrived yesterday - Nanolex textile and leather sealant, designed to repel liquids etc - something I thought relevant with my return to cloth seats and a Junior Dubber looking to go cruising eventually.

There's a thread in the detailing section below, I'll post my results when I get it on, most likely the weekend.

Wow that textile sealant looks awesome!

Also an update on my foot rest, the double sided adhesive just started coming loose so I've removed the foot rest. Not sure what to do with it now, feels like a waste to throw it away but can't think of any other way to use it.

Interestingly for the Highline, advertised as having LED interior lights, not all of them were so privileged to be graced with LEDs. The vanity mirrors, glove box and the boot lights were given standard bulbs. I've changed the vanity mirror and boot lights.

Be aware the vanity mirror LEDs I ordered are too wide to point straight down. The reasons for the different "capacity" vanity mirror LEDs are because the boot LED I originally ordered was supposed to be 42mm (16LED) but they were actually 39mm. I tried them out in the passenger side pointing towards the passenger and found they illuminate the passenger's face very well. The drivers side is pointed towards the visor to minimise excessive light desensitisation during night time driving.
Worth keeping in mind if you're looking to replace the vanity lights.

Other people on the GolfMk7 forum have ordered these for the vanity mirrors with good results: 2x 3 SMD LED 36mm 239 272 CANBUS ERROR WHITE MAP NUMBER PLATE LIGHT FESTOON BULB | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151219559939?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649)

Hi veew,

I was thinking of a similar upgrade. What feedback have you had from the users of the passenger vanity light? Bright white is not as flattering as a yellower light that isn't so bright. I'll need to consult the wife before I do this.

Got the GTI in for a post-delivery paint correction and Opti-coat finish. Skipped the wheels this time as the new ones are on order, but will drop them around before fitment. I'm guessing the Mk7s will drop as much brake dust as the Mk6s!

Anyone seen better or getting an hud?

Hi b c, my girlfriend hasn't mentioned anything about it but if you're wife will be using it a fair bit, I suspect she'll prefer the yellow light just so she doesn't overdo the foundation lol

Dutch77, mate loving the car. I had my wheels opticoated and I hate how much dust the brakes produce, unfortunately the Opticoat doesn't allow the brake dust to simply spray off at the car wash booth (I guess the longer the brake dust is present, the more difficult it is to remove with a simple spray) but I suspect it makes it slightly easier to clean.

Whats on offer with it?

Only HUD I've seen in operation is on a VF Commodore, handy to have the speed up and IIRC it handled sat nav directions as well. However with my return to a Golf I've regained my big digital speedo between the dials which is good enough - I can glance at that quickly enough without losing concentration on the road.

Cheers, I'm really happy with it and the color choice.

I had my Mk6 Detroits coated and found it always wiped straight off, when I changed to the OZs I never got them coated and found a lot more effort was required to clean them (ignoring the actual design which was obviously more work anyway). The Mk7 Austins again would be easy enough to wipe but the new OZs are again on their way soon.

I will be re-reading your globe thread again though and likely doing the same. :)

Uses Obd ii port. So provides speed, rpm, water temp, fuel.

On a different version it offers gps through some very convoluted and troublesome way (need a specific Nokia phone or something).

The Nanolex sealant I bought is for textile and leather so may be something you're interested in, otherwise I wouldn't bother - just maintain it using the right leather products. IIRC there are some threads in the detailing section on it.

Very happy with the OptiCoat. Nanolex requires a well ventilated space (or an ability to hold your breath for some time, but seemed to go well - I haven't tried spilling drinks or chocolate on it to verify it though.

Have a look at Car Mats - Mats for All Car Makes and Models of Vehicles | Matcraft (http://www.matcraft.com.au) - they did up R and GTI mats for Lucas R I believe and he was happy, and a few others have followed suit.

Others have used this UK seller in the past as well I believe Car Mats in Black to fit VW Golf Mk.7 (NEW 2013 on) + Silver R Logos | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Mats-Black-fit-VW-Golf-Mk-7-NEW-2013-on-Silver-R-Logos-/190798777153?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c6c7e4b41)

I had the reversible carpet/plastic liner chucked into my deal to get me to sign, I wouldn't have paid for it otherwise, but again you might find a suitable boot option through them as well.

Thanks Dutch77! Have sent the eBay seller an enquiry as they don't seem to do international shipping. Boy there's so many things I want to get and do to the car the missus is not going to be too happy...

This forum is horrible in that regard. I suspect there is some kind of subliminal text hidden each time you login encouraging you to mod.. ;)

If the price is good enough I assume the UK would have freight forwarders as well like the USA - just depends if it is cost effective or not. Hopefully the seller can ship direct however.

I've been looking for black Cadiz for my wheel thread and am yet to come across any. If I was you, unless I was 100% positive on the look, I'd go and buy some plastidip and try it out first - a cheap option and if you end up not liking it then simply remove. You've also then got the opportunity to experiment perhaps with gloss or matte black as well to see what works best on the white R.

Nice find, I'll get these up in the wheel thread.

I'd still try a plastidip first, I'm not 100% on them yet - losing the detailing of the wheel kind of makes them look like 'clogged' Talladegas from a distance.

None. Which is odd given how long the car has been out in Europe.

Given the rest of the wheel and button changes the chances of the Mk6 standard shifters being the same as the Mk7's are probably almost nil?

Most likely I will stash the Austins and put them back on when I sell the car - unless I get an offer too good to refuse, but I doubt it.

I spent a couple of days and didn't even test drive the Mk7 before signing up; then spent weeks debating wheel choices. Love OZ, had them before and almost grabbed Ultraleggeras myself before these popped up. I bought through local channels, PM if you want more info although if you've ordered probably of little use.

I was actually expecting a fair old wait for these, but managed to score them in 2.5 weeks from factory order in Italy to delivery here!

What color and specs did you go for? Would love to add the pics to the wheel thread once you're up and running.

The Leggera HLTs I've got are 18 x 8 ET48, I didn't want to stray far from stock. They're also in a ET35 which might suit Scirroco or Passat, and they also have a 19 x 8 ET45, or a 19 x 8.5 ET47 if one is feeling aggressive.

Aah that explains it. I stuck with the 19" size of the R, remember now I couldn't find the Leggera's in 19" I went with 19x8.5 ET47 on the Ultralegerra HLT. Sounds about right, my understanding was OZ released the Leggera HLT only in March as a 17 inch wheel, and only began 18 inch production in April/May. It's possible and likely that 19 inch production hasn't started or has only recently. But in any case the Ultraleggera HLT is a great wheel and look forward to seeing the pics soon. The more OZ the merrier.

Hi guys I’m looking to get some opinions on Opti-Coat. I got a quote from Exclusive Detailling in Sutherland for “$500 including side mirrors”. He said they were doing a Mk7 R as he was emailing me.

Is this a good price? What are people’s thoughts on opti-coat? Is it worth it?

That's a pretty good price I think. I paid $700 for stage 1 correction and Opti Coat over all external surfaces except glass (so wheels, lights and plastic trim included).

Importantly they also used an Opti Coat primer as part of the correction so more of the Opti Coat bonded during the application.

I used Reflect Effect in North Parramatta. It was a bit of a drive for me (based in Wollstonecraft) but well worth it. If you Google them you'll see Dave spoken about highly on detailing forums etc.

It will depend on the dealer and their overheads.

The cars I have organised to get paint correction and Opticoat done are paying around $400-450, but that's local.

I've had it on three cars personally and it's now the first 'mod' I get done. :)

Hey Lemonskin, if you don't mind the drive I'd strongly recommend you contact Definitive Detailing in Lane Cove as he did my R with a dual-coat spray gun application plus wheels (and he did my steering for free too) for $750.

Frank the principal is a super enthusiast that does his work with pride and I just took my car back for an inspection yesterday to make sure that the coat has settled in nicely. He also takes nice professional photographs of all the vehicles he's done and they look great. If you're looking to get tinting done he's also happy for your tinted to do it at his workshop, and in this instance I would recommend Rob from Hunters Hill Tinting (he'll do the triangle at the front as well).

Speaking of beading.. I finally got around to running a test patch of Nanolex textile/leather sealant on the weekend:

What these fairly pointless pics are showing is the beading of water in 1; in 2 I ran my finger 'over' the droplets to push them and they started to run down the seat rather than soak in; and in 3 I flicked the same sort of droplet over untreated textile and it began soaking in as per the circled darker patch.

In summary the product repels liquid quite well and I will finish off the car when I have time. It is a simple spray and leave proposition, although it has quite an odour (so best to leave the car open if possible) initially and supposedly is fairly toxic if breathed in so avoid that to. Otherwise for the price its a winner. Oh and no residue or change in material feel once dry.

I purchased the following items of flea bay - will upload some pic's when I get a chance:

1. Carbon Style door sill protectors VW Golf MK7 (5door) | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carbon-Style-door-sill-protectors-VW-Golf-MK7-5door-/271463548758?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:AU:3160)

Easy to fit - just had to make sure the sills were clean and dry. Rear sills were more difficult given the shape of the sill but using a hair dryer helped. Overall, couple of wrinkles barely noticeable and protecting my sills nicely.

2. Splash Guards MUD Flaps FOR VW Volkswagen Golf 7 MK7 2013 2014 UP VW120 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Splash-Guards-Mud-Flaps-for-VW-Volkswagen-Golf-7-Mk7-2013-2014-up-vw120-/221387500119?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:AU:3160)

Fitted perfectly - moulded well. My only comment is the screws provided are too small for the pre-existing holes in the VW wheel wells. Fortunately the pre-existing holes had there own screws easily removed with an allen key and then re-used to hold the mudflap. Otherwise - very happy with result.

VW GOLF 7 MK7 2013 2014 Chrome Exhaust Muffler Tip Pipe | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-7-MK7-2013-2014-Chrome-Exhaust-Muffler-Tip-Pipe-/181295329813?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:AU:3160)

Item as described, no obvious blemishes. Fitting was easy and they look great!

Being time-poor I wanted protection that I didn't have to worry about. After my extensive reading, I went for Opticoat at Elite Finish. Cost me around $490 from memory to Opticoat all the exterior surfaces (including windows and wheels). Over the past 4 months I've pressure washed the car about once a week to fortnight to wash off bird poo etc. The car beads like I properly wash and wax regularly (I've probably only washed it 2, maybe 3 times so far? Even then they haven't been the 2 bucket method either). Obviously a proper wash will ensure there are absolutely no contaminants etc that may remain on the surface but it means you can go longer between proper washes if you wish. Brake dust is so bloody stubborn and after a while needs a proper wipe and clean. In this video you'll see the second wheel has been wiped with my finger at the 3 O'clock position. This demonstrates a simple spray down does not take off all the brake dust but certainly takes off a fair amount.

www.youtube.com/embed/69fL3DvtJ6w (BTW how do you embed these things again?)

Overall I'm really happy with it. This photo is of my car 2 weeks ago:
http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2014/06/IMG_4954_zps18f046a4-1.jpg (http://s1228.photobucket.com/user/trangandrew/media/Random/IMG_4954_zps18f046a4.jpg.html)

There is a guy, David Fermani, in the US who half-Opticoated his car and washed with dish washing soap weekly, touchless washes monthly. David's posts are on pages 1, 2, 4, 7 and 12. His 6 month update on page 2 is probably the best indicator of how well Opticoat works.

I will need to reread your thread and do something about mine though in case I end up on the freeway again at night. As for interior lighting I have no idea what I've got, it's quite a bright white light? With my skills I shouldn't be allowed near anything electrical.

Looks like they have beaten Polar FIS to the market for the Mk7s, but if I want this info I'll wait - I prefer the MFD integration.

It took Polar a long time to get their system working on the Mk6 display too, much more complicated reverse engineering the MFD menu system than just reading some values from the OBD port and showing it on a separate display I guess.

Agreed - last ETA was second half of this year but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

I think the situation was similar last time, a lot of the P3 stuff was showing up until the Polar FIS took over. I'd suggest if you want/need the info then short cut the process and install the P3.

I prefer the MFD integration as well but seeing Polar FIS takes time to bring their product out (which IMO is better than the P3), this is a good substitute.

Ordered some Mk7 weather shields from Ebay, which just arrived. VW Golf MK 7 Gtir Hatch 5 Door 2013 Onwards Weather Shield Visor Volkswagen VI | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VW-GOLF-MK-7-GTIR-HATCH-5-DOOR-2013-ONWARDS-WEATHER-SHIELD-VISOR-VOLKSWAGEN-VI-/331193716208?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d1caf0df0&_uhb=1)

They were cheap, and are thin compared to ones I've put on previous cars, but that's ok.

The problem is they are solid black in colour, so not see-thru, and that strikes me as likely not being compliant with vehicle rules (e.g. tint cannot be solid block out either) or worse not compliant with standards that may apply. Any thoughts?

Maybe they wanted the "Front and rear, carpet with Golf badging and white trim highlight" or the "Front and rear, rubber with Golf embossing" instead of the bog standard one :)

(I've always ordered the rubber ones...)

Included mats are a very low pile carpet with no embossing or branding and feel almost like velvet. Contoured around trim as seen in the pic

I use universal mats on top to be a bit harder wearing and preserve my VW carpet.

I also manufactured some foot rests in propeller plate to stop scuffing of the plastic rests. Pics don't show the one for the right hand rest.

How do those springs work with the adaptive damping/chasis in the Mk7?

also, just as follow up I pulled the foot-well lights and they do appear to be a purpose designed LED unit. I could not separate the clear part from the back completely and the LED board appears to be hardwired not a wafer type bulb.

I tried brake-light repair tape (red) and it was way too dim to be useful. Might be different if I can place it inside the clear cover instead as the tape doesn't fit snug on the textured outer surface (so could be reflecting a lot of the light back). Not to sure where to go next on this other than replacing the entire fixture with one I can place a bulb in or colour in the LED with a red felt tip :P.

Generally shouldn't be an issue as it's the dampers that are adjusting (and steering), not the springs.

It's coilover systems that cause the issue as you then need to look at the KW DDC unit to maintain the adjustability control and the price rockets up.

I'll be curious to see more thoughts/reviews on the ride quality of the Eibachs.

Hey,

The bluetooth scanner tool I bought was this one. Mini Auto CAR V1 5 ELM327 OBD2 Odbii Bluetooth CAN BUS Scanner Tool Android | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190868683257?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649)

There are a few others out there, but that's the one I bought and it's working perfectly with my Galaxy S4 and the torque app. You also need the torque app, you can get the free one, but there's torque pro which is about $5. I'd suggest getting the pro version, not only for the features, but the fact that it's just an astonishingly useful piece of software and well worth it for the money.

Anyway, first thing you do is plug the adaptor in the OBDII port, you'll find it's underneath the front dash, I believe it's below the small compartment near the door. A word of caution, some people suggest that it can drain your battery, I left my parkers on overnight and I had 90% remaining. So really, as long as you drive your car frequently, you should not run into any issues.

Once that's done, start up torque. In the home screen, you'll see 4 icons on the top. The two left most are the important ones, connection to the adapter, and connection to ECU. Once they're all solid, you're good to go. Then all you do is go into real time information, use the pre existing gauges, or add your own!

True, although I'd like to think that you're change in ride quality will be roughly in the same ratio as one size up.

As you noticed in the wheel thread even the OEM wheels react well to a drop in ride height from a looks perspective, any plans to change yours or sticking to the Dijons? Some pics either way will be good on the thread. Even VW know a reduced wheel gap looks good, a fair bit of their promotional material shows cars runnings at reduce height I reckon.. or just very clever photography.

I'm going to pick up a set but looking for the best price, they are much more common and cheaper in LHD.

As the car is a RHD DSG Golf Mk7 does it matter if I go for LHD or RHD pedal caps seeing as I only need the accelerator and brake caps and I cant imagine these two pedals would differ for right or left hand drive DSG.

Anyone more knowledgeable know the answer?

Has anyone put LEDs into the existing rear lights?

I know you can get replacement LED lights as in the GTI Performance and R, but I have seen some examples in the US of LEDs in the original rear light cluster and that light pattern in a diffused sort-of LED looks quite good. I imagine it would also be a lot cheaper and wouldn't have any risk of throwing up a coding error.

That is the impression I was under. So would be possible to do on the stock exhaust tips? Thing is I can't take them off so I might melt the bumper, so might want to be wary of that. I could just get some tips and burn them I guess.

Just ordered a set of mudflaps on ebay... NEW MUD Flaps Fender Splash Guards FOR VW Golf MK7 VII 2013 2014 Hatchback | eBay (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/705-53470-19255-0/1?campid=5337592361&toolid=10001&mpre=http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181447946456?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649)

Asked the dealer about them as potential compensation for late delivery and was told that at $120/pr they couldn't do but I got them (whole set) from ebay for whatever $CAN27 works out to be...

Hi Folks ..

Has anyone found a really nice leather steering wheel cover for the mk7 (TSI) ?

All the "covers" look pretty terrible - if you want a leather wheel i would recommend either of the following:

1) find a genuine Mk7 leather wheel and do a swap
2) take your steering wheel to a good auto trimmer and have them trim the wheel in your choice of leather (perforated/non perforated and your choice of colour). I had a steering wheel in my old Nissan 200sx trimmed in leather by a professional auto trimmer and it looked and felt awesome. Cost $350

Give it a month or two and you will be able to get them through vendors on ebay. I got my Superpro alloy control arms for my Mk6 from ebay. The Mk6 ones are about $500 so that should give you an indication as to how much these will be.

Thanks for the tips re the steering wheel cover ...

i did look at some over the weekend at an auto store that we just happened to be driving past and they were all pretty horrible ... which is why i asked the question

when i initially made that post i didn't think my steering wheel was leather (i have the baseline 90TSI) ... it certainly doesnt look or feel like the leather steering wheels that i remember ... but after doing a bit of googling i found this > VW Golf MK7 Leather Multifunction Cruise Control Steering Wheel 5G0 419 091 DJ | eBay (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/705-53470-19255-0/1?campid=5337592361&toolid=10001&mpre=http://www.ebay.ie/itm/VW-GOLF-MK7-LEATHER-MULTIFUNCTION-CRUISE-CONTROL-STEERING-WHEEL-5G0-419-091-DJ-/191196308935) > which is basically what mine looks like (except its not missing bits and is actually attached to my car :) ) ... so i guess that mine might be "leather"

However, it's NOT the nice quality leather steering wheel cover that i have locked in my mind .. so i guess that i will be off to the auto trimmer after xmas to get a nice cover and a couple of other things sorted :)

and another accessories question ..

i spent some time last night sorting out my am/fm preset radio stations and getting the station logos into the radio (ended up "making my own" that were much clearer and easier to quickly read than the actual station logos - some of which i found too "detailed and fussy" to read at a glance)

but the thing that i noticed most about the car while doing that at night is that the interior lighting in both the boot and the car is pretty dim ... can anyone tell me, to "upgrade" the interior lights > is it as simple as taking the old bulbs out and installing these > Volkswagen Golf Mk7 Premium LED Interior Lighting Package 2015, 2014 (http://www.precisionled.com/volkswagen-golf-premium-led-interior-lights-kits-2014-present.html)

has anyone used these and can confirm that they are brighter than the OEM originals and that they will work (and not throw up error messages on the screen thingy) ...

otherwise, any other light kits that i could look at?

Most of the lights are easy enough to swap but the boot is tricky as it is a separate piece of trim that needs removing and the glovebox one needs dismantling of the small case it is in . But nothing too difficult really.

Getting a kit will be a good way to get the right colour and size for them all (i accidentally ordered blue ones for the glovebox the first time)

Is that just for the control arms or other bits too? With the Mk6 you could buy the control arms for $500 ish and then there was another bit which was optional that was another $300 or so.

Yep that one looks to be leather - should be easy enough to spot with the stitching on the inside of the wheel. The leather in my Mk6 is lovely, wonder why the Mk7 would be any different.

As for interior lighting, have a look at Bold Sport. They have a good range of high quality LED's for VW's and they work well (i have some).

The guy I spoke to didn't mention any other bits (ball joints). So I guess not included.

Let's wait and see till they are released and see what's going on then.

Lucas, haven't studied a base wheel close enough but I'd believe it; while Mk7 brings the game forward in many aspects I'm guessing VW needed to cut a few corners to keep costs in check.

I'd definitely take my Mk6 GTI/R wheel over the Mk7, both in design and looks and in the feel/leather finish.

The Mk7 Golfs get the same wheel in base, Comfortline and Highline. The R-line gets a different wheel. I rather like the leather on mine - it's miles ahead of any other wheel found on a $21000 car - and after 17 months it appears that it won't suffer the annoying trait that some other leather wheels do of going shiny.

Its a P3 gauge. Quite a useful little tool to monitor your car. Reads straight off the ECU and shows boost pressure, air inake temp, outside temp, revs, engine timing, you can read any trouble codes that come up and clear them and a couple of other things off the top of my head. Also has a nice 0-100km/h timer that i use a bit with my R :)

There is a guy in Tasmania, from memory, that makes them completely custom for each type of car. I lost his details but hopefully that sparks someone else that may know who I am talking about.

Just traded my Mk6 GTI on a new Mk7 GTI. The 6 had the xenon lights with LED day running lights which really looked the business. However, the newie is only fitted with the standard lights set up and just the plain old yellow daytime running lights.

Have seen some after market LED set ups on-line an was wondering if anyone has any recommendations or options please. Ta muchly.

Has anyone found a decent supplier - or somewhere to buy OEM - of metal scuff plates for the boot lip of the Mk7 Golf? I had one on my Polo and it was great, would love to get it on my Golf. Can’t see anything on VW Australia’s website.

Any other recommendations from those with the Golf R as to accessories to get? My dad has the A45 AMG and he's done a few small cosmetic things to it and it looks awesome...unfortunately he has bragging rights on sheer acceleration

Your dad wont have bragging rights if you get a tune. I constantly do 3.7 0-100km/hr with LC and 4.2/4.3 without.

I hated the stock paddle shifters in my new mk7 Golf R. They felt a bit like clicking a mouse button, and in no way looked or felt inviting to play with. It just didnt seem right that such a cheap plastic part is used to control such ferocity.

So in a moment of failed financial sensibility i ordered a set of silver anodised S2T VW DSG Paddle Shifters from here:

VW (http://www.s2tpp.com/VW.html)

I received them a few weeks later and was going to install them myself, but ended up getting Euro Car Upgrades in Maroochydore install them when i was getting them to put in the VW plug and play sound system i had ordered.

The ones i received seem significantly different to the ones pictured, and are obviously an updated model, as some reviews criticised the clearance between the shifters and the control stalks, where the ones i received have great clearance. I can not imagine bumping them or the stalks inadvertently. The older ones have a raised ridge on the back of them. The new design has a small finger gripping groove running down the back, that is great to rest your fingers in. They also seem to sit further inboard of the wheel rim (they are still very easy to reach).

They look awesome, and have added far more to the look and feel of the steering wheel than i thought they would. They have that cold metal feel, and the silver stands out beautifully from the piano black of the rest of the wheel.

In short, when i initially ordered them i thought that it was borderline foolish to spend $225USD + freight on a part that works just the same as the OEM ones, but i would not hesitate for a second in getting them next time around.

They just add that element of Porsche/Ferrari/Lambo drama to the steering wheel, and in the very sensible, dark, germanic interior that the Golf R has, it significantly adds to the feel of the car.

Money well spent IMHO. Do it, you will not regret it!

Has anyone seen the below floor mats kicking around around in a RHD version? I went into a VW dealer the other day but they only knew of the mats with a much smaller Golf motif.

And if anyone knows a particular supplier of high quality Golf floor mats (genuine or aftermarket) please share it.

Thanks!

The footrest had some minor blemishes, this doesn't bother me as you can't see them unless you like operating the pedals with your forehead.

Fitment of the brake and accelerator pedals were perfect. I decided to muck around to see how the foot rest could be used, as these sets are for LHD vehicles.
The foot rest has plenty of tabs on the side and rear, I used some trusty kitchen scissors (as I didn't really have any proper tools at home) to trim the tabs off

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/05/Pedals19_zpse327dc52-1.jpg (http://s1228.photobucket.com/user/trangandrew/media/Pedals/Pedals-19_zpse327dc52.jpg.html)

Looking to purchase the VW Rubber Mats (unfortunately there isn't an 'R' variant) and the plastic boot liner.

Any suggestions on where to get em cheap or if there are some other preferred options out there?

Anyone got a roof box for their MK7? If so what brand/size did you go for? Does it interfere with the boot?

I do a bit of snowboarding and have been looking at the roof boxes for a while. Previously I've just used universal locking arms on my subaru but thought I'd look at my options this time round with the GTI.

I don't own one, but I hired one for a trip with the family from Adelaide to Brisbane at Christmas time. It was a Rhino-Rack 440L. Didn't interfere with the boot or overhang the windscreen. And neither the box or the racks interfered with the sunroof.

Hi All,

I live and work on the outer skirts of Melbourne, where by commuting from home includes travelling on unlit semi rural roads at night/ early morning etc (always changing as I work shift work). So this makes wildlife a serious hazard, from small mammals up to some Deer and I dread the day it involves cattle or a horse that has escaped its paddock.

Anyway I own a Polo GTi and my partner owns a Gold GTi both still under VW warranty. The lighting (mainly high beam) on both these cars is woefully inadequate!!! The company vehicles that I drive have driving lights fitted, which are excellent.

I am interested in fitting one of these Narva LED driving light bars; L.E.D Driving Lamp Bars - Products - Narva (http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/led-driving-lamp-bars) which from what I have discovered have a 'plug and play' / easy fitment; Narva's L.E.D Driving Light Bars Set New Benchmark - Narva (http://www.narva.com.au/pressreleases/press-releases/narvas-led-driving-light-bars-set-new-benchmark)
Narva Driving Light Harness - 12 Volt - Supercheap Auto Australia (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Narva-Driving-Light-Harness-12-Volt.aspx?pid=347377#Recommendations)

Keeping in mind that both cars are still under warranty, I cannot find any instructions online on how to install these bars. Are they relatively simple or is it best for an auto electrician to do it ?

Also is there anyway the VW dealer would install these for me. I know that they wouldn't provide a warranty on the installation but is this an option?

Thanks

ps Its been posted in both as it affects both my polo and partners golf.

I'm also interested to find out more about this.

Just came back from the snowy mountains where there is an abundance of wildlife, but I thought my high beams would be enough. While I was at the ski tube carpark I did see a mk7 R with a led bar fitted to Thule racks which actually looked quite good with skis atop. So I made sure I stuck behind him on the trip back!

VW don't even do this for the RHD cars that go to the UK. I wouldn't bother. The solution would have to be customised with rewiring, would cost heaps and you barely use the mode and stop/start buttons anyway. Also having a DSG makes it slightly easier to put up with (still obviously annoying!)

I push the Stop/Start and Traction Control buttons every time I get in the car and use the Mode button pretty often too. I would love to have them on the other side. No doubt it could be done, but you may end up with functional buttons with no labels - very James Bond-ish!

Dutch77

If you can find a left handed wrench I believe its possible.

As for the engineering aspect it has the same annoyance factor to me as the indicator stalk being on the wrong side, I guess you adjust.

I use these buttons everyday. It's very frustrating. And when the shifter is pulled into the drive position you actually have to look around the shifter to get your eyes on the buttons, it would make a tonne more sense for these to be on the drivers side. The Stop/Start button especially since I push that every single time I push the start button.

Understand that it is personal preference, I have have the car in Race mode then change from S to D using the shifter, it will remember what state you had and whenever you want it to hold revs in Sport just tap the shifter down.

For Start-Stop, I have disabled it via the VCDS voltage tweak.

And for traction control, not sure why you would be daily disengaging it but I would hate to see your tyre bill.

Hey guys,

Just looking for some input and help with what everyone is interested in. I have a mate who is currently in the works of opening up an online store and having all genuine VAG items from Germany. Because it is just starting up he is looking at accessories or parts that people want now to be able to test time frames to have them sent to Australia etc. He can get everything in cheaper then the dealerships!

So if you guys could help me list what type of products you have or would like to have in your golfs. If you like, you can PM me if there is something you would like a price on and I will get that back to you.

By the way it is looking, group buys could work out cheaper due to postage costs, but we will have to see how everything goes

Thanks!

Jimi - We are not having much luck finding these, as they seem to be more or less made for the US market. But chasing up with suppliers to see if they can be made (keep you posted)

So the parts my mate is dealing with are only Genuine at the time being. This is what he has found

Chrome Black Exhaust Silencers - $285.00
Stainless Steel Silencers - $260.00

With the Bike Rack, do you need the roof racks as well?

Bike Carrier $260.00

Roof Racks $395.00

These prices include Postage to Australia and my mate is willing to cover the postage within Australia. Obviously if there is more people purchasing this could make the price cheaper and so forth. Let me know what you guys think

Thanks!

Yeah those railings are for the roof racks to fit on so they are not a problem. If I can get a bunch of people wanting a few different items they can still be posted together and hence put the prices down, so I will start compiling a list of items people want for sure and when I get enough I will let you guys know. As for the exhaust tips! Yes they are very expensive, but from my understanding, they do not just clip on to the existing pipe, its a exhaust pipe replacement (end only). I can source cheaper ones which are a whole lot cheaper for about $60.00 (postage included) but they will not be genuine ones.

Let me know what you would like to do

I'm just over a month away from getting my GTI. Super excited. Against all common sense I am considering a few things for it before I take delivery (S2T paddles are definitely going to be ordered, P3 gauge is maybe a bit too expensive for what it does IMHO). Does anyone have recommendations for:

An interior LED kit that won't trip the VCDS
Number plate base plates with plate covers*
A good floor mat set, rubber is probably best
A tubbed rubber boot liner

* I found Lakin but it'll cost $250 for a full set. Any decent (but cheaper) alternates out there?

Anything else people would recommend buying?

Hey mattaus, I can vouch for the Lakin gear - it's worth the outlay. As a much cheaper alternative I still have the rear base plate from my Mk7 and front and rear covers in full Euro size if that's the look you are chasing. I was flogging it for $30 or so in the used section if you want a look.

As for what else - well a high quality set of light weight wheels would be high on my list too. ;)

I had a look at your listing just then. I was only going to get some slimline monochrome plates to replace my standard QLD plates. I'd only buy personalised plates if I got MATAYUS (how Mattaus is pronounced lol) but whilst they are available, I cannot justify $3,295 for them :(

So your plates are a bargain, but just not for me. That being said I should try find photos of a Golf with slimline plates because the space may look a little empty if you know what I mean. Euro plates would fill the space much better and I'm not sure if I like the idea of using bumper plugs (especially at $14 each... (http://www.bumperplugs.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=1_11_99&product_id=99)).

Only if I can sell my stock wheels to cover most, if not all, of the replacement cost! I read the daily wheels thread everyday haha.

EDIT: My brother bought LED kits from this mob for his Polo and says he had no errors. The pages for the kits do state "Pack without OBC error".

forgive me if i'm wrong but doesn't the GTI come with full interior LED lights already anyway?

I know the map lights definitely are. If anyone can confirm the rest are as well (centre lights, vanity lights, glove box, foot wells(?) boot etc) that would be great!

I like the look of these boots liners (http://www.weathertecheurope.com/uk/volkswagen/2015/golf-gti-rabbit-r32/cargo-liner/bodystyle/5-door-hatchback/naturalgasvehicle/no/). I found some pictures of them installed and they seem to fit really well, and have a nice deep edge. The Australian distributor (http://www.astauto.com.au/index.php/cargo-boot-liners) is not far from where I work. RRP of $149 seems all right to me.

Floor mats are a toss up between these eBay GTI ones (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FLOOR-MAT-SET-VW-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-MKVII-MK7-GTI-FRONT-REAR-SET-BLACK-NEW-/271904199844?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3f4ec0d4a4), and the Tailor Made lot from Motoquipe (http://www.motoquipe.com.au/buy/tailor-made-floor-mats-vw-golf-mk7-2013-current-cu/663-4).

I'll check tomorrow. There might be 1 or 2 that aren't.

Maybe...

...OK, no I didn't. When test driving the thought to ask never crossed my mind oddly enough. Ah well, saves me some money now :)

Thanks for letting me know!

Don't go out of your way. I bought a set off eBay for $25 that supposedly work and don't trip anything. Cheap enough to try, and I know I'll use them now. Of course I may have to replace all the lights because I don't want different tints of light throughout the car. It's not hard to do :)

How about installing a GTI steering wheel with paddle shifters?

Well the OP did ask the question ;)

And I was wondering how I could legitimately post a link to my for sale ad in the Mk7 forum area given that the steering wheel will only work on a Mk7. It was too good an opportunity to pass up!

Seriously though a lot of people forget to check the parts area when considering mods. You can often pick up gear at a decent discount.

Just so you can't call me biased here's a few other suggestions that will fit a Mk7:

Accessories I always negotiate for with a new car are rubber floor mats & cargo net.

Though, I've recently gone back to carpet mats & find them more 'comfy'. Good to have the rubber mats as backup though.

Also got a Boot Liner with the Golf, adding extra protection in the back.

I reckon the cargo nets are underrated - VERY handy to keep shopping in check, & with the additional hook mounts in the MK7 Golf, you can customise their layout to suit.

I carried over a net I had in the old Polo, so now have 2 nets in the back...

Purpose of this thread is to praise/criticise accessories you have for your MK7 Golf.

Luggage Net

I REALLY like these things. They're all about tying down shopping whilst also allowing the car to be flung around corners on the way home - ie. Not missing out on fun with a loaded boot.

They compliment the existing shopping hooks, but add more flexibility when the hooks won't do.

I've carried over a Luggage Net from my prior VW purchase, so am now rocking two of them, having negotiated a 2nd when purchasing the Golf...

& I think I've worked out the best hook-anchorage arrangement for most tasks...

I have just installed the rest pedal on my GTI, it looks better than OEM plastic one.
I got it from Aliexpress, this is the link.
Buy Products Online from China Wholesalers at Aliexpress.com (http://s.aliexpress.com/VfuYZfqI)

The installation is pretty simple, however it wasn't perfectly fit the slot, I need to use a blazer knife to trim a little bit. If you guys need a RHD foot rest pedal. This is one of the choices.

Cheers

Hi can anyone point me in the right direction. Looking for blue LED footwell lights and white LED strip light. Also looking for red rear strip lights, same as found in front door and sill. PS. Saw a white 2016 GTI performance with red door handles. Looked amazing. Pity couldn't take a snap.2016 VW Golf GTI Performance. Melbourne. Thanks Frank.

Hi guys

New to the forum and recently taken delivery of an MY16 Golf Highline (110TSI, white, DAP, Luxury pack).

Am on the hunt for some chrome tips for the exhaust just to finish it off (the steel looks a bit cheap IMO) and am finding it a bit painful. I am dubious of all the ebay stuff from HK and China and wonder if anyone had any luck sourcing from the dealer or other overseas sources - europe or US? I really like the ones that come fitted to the Highline as part of the R line option.

So far I've been given the run around with one VW dealer telling me the part cant be purchased and another telling me it can (as p/n 5g0253825e) at $315 A PIECE :icon_crazy:

Tried the Yeti option through Skoda and they tell me they've got nothing available in Aus.

Even spoke to Audi as im sure they're the same part on the A3 with the 110 motor, however, when i spoke to the dealer it was almost like i had really offended him when i said they were for the Golf and he pretty much wouldn't order them for me and the conversation was ended abruptly.

Does anyone have any good advice or tips (no pun intended) on tracking a decent set down for reasonable money (ideally genuine)????

Super Cheap Auto stocks them as well, pretty cheap.

Plus one with super cheap. You will need to cut the ends off and attach with a spot weld or some putty, but for around $25 each they are value for money.
You can also see your local muffler shop as they have chrome end caps in many styles.

So I saw these on eBay. I've never bought something like this before - I tend to go for mods with purpose over purely styling. But at $28 I figured, why not.

I realise it's purely subjective, but I can't decide if I like them or not. I like the idea of them, but not convinced in the application.

Thoughts?

I was the same. Mine's LSG as well. Took me a good couple weeks to decide. Left them on. I don't mind them, although I've got black Pretorias & mirror caps as well. Leave them for a week & see what you think.

Hmm........ as you say, it's a very subjective thing - aesthetically !! What happens to the upper end of the reflector light-spread? Given that the "eyelids" appear to extend out so far, doesn't their presence cut-off the top part of the beam pattern (particularly for High-beam)?

Looks a tad ricey - not really a fan of add-ons to the Mk7 given it has a clean shape as is.

It may work better if you can source a similar grille to say the ABT kits which carry the eyelid line right through the top of the grill. I can't upload a pic now but just google it and you'll see what I mean.

But each to their own, what matters is if you like it. There are guys out there who like Santiago and Cadiz wheels too. :?
