I have an 06 Polo GTI which I have had for 3 years and it has done 69,000 kms. About 1.5 years ago I got a trial tune which lasted for 6 hours of driving time so I could decide if I wanted to buy the tune or not. I didn't. Since then the car has been running at about 12L/100km which is quite high. Although I do use the A/C when driving but I am not sinking the boot in at all. How much would it cost for VW to do a re-set of my computer or is it worth just taking it to my mechanic (if he can re-flash the computer)? or is there any other suggestions? Thanks.

I think when you get these trials they flash the ecu and it reverts back to the tuners version of the stock tune, not what you had previously.

I would think that unless you got a backup of your original tune then you're not going to get it back.

I don't believe so, I believe it switches to a stock-like tune.

I'd get CC, well priced and more power

Just what noone said, go with a tune, it'll probably be cheaper than having VW revert you back to stock

I ran mine with std tune on and it was awful to drive. Maybe being in the game I am spoilt with the amount of tuned cars I drive. My Phase 2 would sub 6 at 100 on the highway and even with the billet turbo and mods it gets down to low 6s going to work.

550-600 out of a tank.

Phase 1 tunes would all be pretty similar.

It would be worth a scan first though before condemning software. Happy to look at it for you.

I am in Narangba. Happy laps tomorrow might be a convenient time?

What is a GIAC phase 1 worth compared to other tunes?

My GIAC tune was about $900 4 or 5 ish years ago..

Usual disclaimer: Stage 1 tunes are pretty similar. If you want to do more stuff in the future, think about what support and customisation you can get. If I was looking these days I'd get in touch with Gavin (h100vw) or Jimmy (Jmac). They're local, enthusiasts and will sort you out with a good deal.

550-600 out of a tank? Mine is always around 12L/100kms as well and I do have a bit of a heavy foot but I see 380kms a tank max and it's still on a standard tune lol

Since Jan 2011 I've been tracking my fuel use with each fill using the aCar app. So far I am averaging 8.61 L/100km with a minimum of 6.25L/100km and a maximum of 10.89L/100km. Wish I had have had it since day 1 with the car so I could see the difference the tune, etc have made over time.

What brand of tune did you get and are you happy with it?
Never mind...I just read your banner under you post.

Holy Sheeit some of you lot are getting great numbers.

Mine, mostly stock on APR stage 1 tune, highway at 113km/h usually mid 7s.

Back and forward to work, 7.3?

K04, 3" exhaust, but not yet tuned (being reasonably gentle too) now averaging mid 6's.

I've never seen "550-600" from a tank though!!

I drive mine like a grandma to work and back, city driving nothing over 60km and can't get over 350km out of a tank!!

Totally stock, I can only think it might need a new 02 sensor, has done 83K on the clock...

My APR Stg2 did 5.7l/100km going up the coast from Brissy to the Sunny Coast and back easily every time and I had it on either 105 or 115 km/h on the SatNav (much more on the speedo) and it always had at least 4 people in it.

In town, the commute gave me 9l/100km and that was 20km each way, burbs to CBD fringe.

Not only was the tune so much fun, it saved a lot of fuel over the 6 years I had it ..... still miss the little beast (sigh)

Reading this makes me think there is something wrong with my car stuff it I'm calling up the shop tomorrow and seeing if I can get a stage one tune Friday and maybe they can tell me if there are any other problems lol

A number of factors affect the fuel consumption reading such as tire pressure, tires, fuel type and how well you ride the down revs, curvature of the road ect..

I run a tire pressure of around 37 psi, this has greatly improved the fuel consumption figure as well as making takeoff a little lighter feeling than the recommended 33psi

You can easily get up to 700km out of the tank in this beast if you use the overfill release valve when filling up, on my last fillup I managed to get 43 litres into the tank with a quarter left, so the tank will hold roughly 55 - 60~ liters, anyone confirmed this from empty?

With the APR Tune, I get an average of 7.2, as low as 6.8 and average around 8.5 around town in traffic

I get around 550-600kms per tank in my polo. Has a stage 1 Harding Performance tune. On the highway at 110kph it's sitting on 4.5-5.5L/100kms. Consider myself lucky after hearing about others with low fuel efficiency problems.

Mine isn't great. Car is completely stock, I get 7.8L/100kms on the highway, and up near 10 or 11 around town. Might go Stage 1 just for the increased economy.

I barely get that and I commute up the highway on cruise control, and generally light footed. I think we need stage 2 mods for the frugal consumption.

6-7 on the freeways (215 semi slicks wont help)
i don't look around town, between traffic and driving spiritedly could be towards 15 fairly easily.

Tune without changing the turbo does not make a noticeable difference that I noticed, but a 9N GTI without a tune is a wasted machine. I moved from APR to CC, great decision.

Cooler temps and lower humidity can make a noticeable difference.
