Hi guys,

I'm interested in getting a 2014 118TSI Comfortline with the sportspack, but on doing some standard research, the 118TSI appears to be one of the main offenders in VW engine/recall issues since 2011.

I haven't been able to find much about the updates to the 2013/2014 models so does anyone know if VW fixed these issues or it's still a likelihood? I also read from the forums that the 118TSI was dropped from the latest Golf range and didn't know if this was happening with the Jetta.

Finally, there also appears to be a 2015 model debuting at the NY Auto show April, but this sound like a facelift. Sorry, i've been Googling a bit too much ;)

Is anyone able to share any info or experience on the 2013/2014 models?

Cheers

Jason

I'm not a Jetta owner but I do have a friend that has a 118tsi Jetta in manual and it's a great car. Having said that I wouldn't want to own one of these with a 7speed DSG outside of warranty.

So if you're dead set that this is the car for you then make sure you get the factory extended warranty, get it serviced to schedule and sell it before the warranty runs out.

Otherwise for similar $ buy the 103TDI or get a demo 147TSI. Both of these have much better engines/gearbox with far fewer issues.

+1. What ^^^^ he said. The 118tsi is so much of a lottery it isn't funny.

Keep in mind the 118tsi in the Octavia is a 1.8 Litre single turbo that is pretty reliable. That might be an option if you don't want a diesel or the power output of the 147tsi

I've got the 2012 103TDI with the sports pack and it's got the 6spd DSG gearbox. So far haven't had any issues with it, but it does take some time to get used to it because it's not the same as a conventional auto.
Personally I wouldn't go for the 118TSI purely because of the engine and DSG issues.
Like tigger73 said, you can get a 103TDI or 147TSI if you spend a little more and have hassle free driving (hopefully).
Also in my opinion the diesel offers great performance with excellent fuel economy :)

I got the 147...but regret not getting the diesel...I smash my petrol too damn quick...but it is fun to drive

Get the 147 if your right foot gets itchy often ;)
Get the TDI if you vote for the Greens :P

Don't get the 118TSI though, the engine drinks oil hard and the 7 speed DSG can be dodgy.
