mk2 brake upgrade

hello there,
i am interested in replacing the 239mm disc rotors on my mk2, up to the 280mm 8)
i have heard some conflicting information about what wil & will not work eg early vr6, g60, seat cupra caliper carriers :?
if anyone has had experience with this i would love to hear about it :D

239s are on their own on a mk2.

You need to get yourself the hubs and ball joints from a 256mm brake 4 stud car.
Late 80s early 90s Passat would be the cheapest donor in the uk. Very plentiful and the breakers don't add £ss cos they are from a GTI. Not sure what you have in Australia, that would be as easy to get.

The bits should bolt straight up IIRC. Once you get to 256, you can use the calipers and mounting brackets from a 280 set up. Use 280 4 stud discs from a G60. There may be other ways of getting the right discs.

I was talking to evorobin the other day and he said he had a place that drills them to suit. In which case you may be able to get re-drilled 5 stud 280s from a mk3.

I also saw in the states a while back a company that had 288s in a 4 stud which would use late mk3 GTI or maybe even mk4 bits.

Bolt on Mk 3 hub carriers complete with brakes and calipers or better still Cupra stuff, all available in Aus.

brake disks from a mk3 gti or vr6 will not work as they have widetrack suspension, if you want to use mk3 hubs and disks you need to fit the complete widetrack assembly including driveshafts. you cannot use a redrilled mk3 disk as the disk height or offset is different.

the early mk3 280mm callipers are very similar to the g60 callipers and can be used with g60 disks and mk2 16v hubs

My MK2 golf has VR6 brakes, i didn't do the conversion the guy i bought it off did, so i dunno how it was done but by the looks the rear hes just put the VR6 disc on the stub axle with the VR6 calipers. The front end it looks like hes used a VR6 lower control arm and ball joint, the C.V's still look like MK2 ones but there stretched out a bit. He must of put the hub and everything from a VR6 on the front as its 5 stud. I havn't had any troubles with it yet except the VR6's had abs and the MK2 doesn's so u can lock up if you wanna.

Stop the confusion put mk3 Golf 2 litre hub carriers brakes and all on .Simple straight on.
256 is great with good pads

might want to give the system and full bleed and run new pads first and decide from there whether it's worth your while upgrading.

ye on most of these upgrades that i have heard about, is that the 22mm master cylinder is part of the process
