Hi, what do people think, get a late model DSG MK6 Golf R or a DSG MK7 GTI Performance Package?

I would get the R.
Performance package isn't going to make up for the capability of a 4-Mo system and the K04.

^^^^ what he said. Although the distance between a 7R and the 7GTi PP will only be circa ten percent, I suspect.

If you are looking at a Mk6 R vs Mk7 GTI PP, you could probably pick up the R cheaper.

Get a manual Golf R - way more fun than DSG.

I went the Mk6 R.

What does the MK7 GTI PP come with that a well spec'd MK6 R doesn't come with?

I am pretty clear that I was agreeing with you, but pointing out that there will not be much in going from the 7 GTI PP to the 7R. Apologies if that was not clear enough. The 6R is certainly cheaper.

I do personally prefer the 6R, but looking at the cars on carsales, all either overpriced without the accessories I'm after or interstate.

Lucas_R - In a perfect world, yes manual but I can't trust my wife driving the kids in one lol.

What you should really be thinking is what car you'd want in three years time. By then I'd imagine the MK6 R would feel quite dated...

G’day Boost, having only driven the Mk6 R I guess it’s only uneducated opinion but I’d go against the grain here and choose the newer vehicle. According to the reviews that I’ve read it has a significantly better chassis, steering and fuel economy, not to mention improvements in the interior, power delivery and ride and handling.

It won’t launch like the 4 motion and you’d have to think you’ll lose out in mid-corner grip but its mid-range and dynamics are good enough for VAG to claim that it’s faster than the Mk6 R around the Nurburgring despite a 30kw disadvantage.

If I was in your position, what I’d really do is wait to see what the new Mk7 R is priced at. It should be a beaut and I just read on the forum that someone has already viewed one in the country today.

I haven't tested the 7GTi but having tried the 6R and 6GTi i can say that there is a remarked difference in handling.

the 6R with the haldex system seems very heavy on the road and on turn in. the 6GTi seems dartier and easier to drive in normal conditions.

that being said, the extra power from the R really helps when cutting in and out of traffic.

I got a feeling that if i test drove the 7GTi with the PP i might trade in my R on the spot. the only thing i'd really miss is the roar of the exhaust (which you can argue can be added to the 7GTi with aftermarket mods)
